HomeMy WebLinkAboutSalvation Army 70th Anniversary_05.2024 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, founded in 1865 by William and Catherine Booth, the Salvation Army was established to meet the needs of the poor and disadvantaged in the slums of London, England and today the organization is in over 130 countries around the world including the United States where it was established in 1880 and where it assists approximately 23 million Americans annually, and WHEREAS, the Salvation Army, with its motto “Doing the Most Good”, and through the support of donors, volunteers, and community advocates, has served those less fortunate with services including those for struggling families, the aging, homeless, food insecurity, job training, spiritual healing, holiday assistance, and disaster relief, and it serves with compassion striving to uplift others in their times of need; and WHEREAS, since 1954, when the late United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower first proclaimed it, National Salvation Army Week has been celebrated annually, and it provides an opportunity to recognize the organization’s legacy and many years of service, and to honor the efforts of the volunteers, donors, and its valuable programs; and WHEREAS, Salvation Army is celebrating its 70th Anniversary of the National Salvation Army Week, and the corps has been serving Williamson County since 1955 and the office in Georgetown has been open since 2014 serving our community. NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSH SCHROEDER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS do hereby proclaim May 13 through 19, 2024, as NATIONAL SALVATION ARMY WEEK in Georgetown, Texas
