PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for managing growth and sustainable
development, revitalizing commercial districts, fostering local pride and maintaining
community character while enhancing livability; and
WHEREAS, historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation, both urban and
rural, and for Americans of all ages, all walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions
made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that
has shaped us as a people; and
WHEREAS, "Saving Places” is the theme for National Preservation Month 2023, co-sponsored
by the Downtown & Tourism Department, Georgetown Historic and Architectural Review
Commission, Preservation Georgetown, The Williamson Museum, and the National Trust for
Historic Preservation; and
WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown is fortunate to have historic place-savers who pour their
time, energy, and resources into protecting places they care about, to preserve for future
generations;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSH SCHROEDER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, do hereby proclaim May 2023, as
NATIONAL PRESERVATION MONTH
in Georgetown, Texas
