PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Carl Doering was extremely proud that Georgetown was his home for all of his 98 years after his
grandparents immigrated to Central Texas from Germany. They opened a post office in a community they
named Walburg and Carl grew up there, attending Zion Lutheran through the 7th grade and then Concordia
High School in Austin; and
WHEREAS, whereas Carl joined the U.S. Army in 1944 and was sent to California to ship out to the South
Pacific, joining World War II. Before the war, Carl met Linden Dolores Anderson from Austin and when he was
shipped out, they became pen pals and got to know each other through letters. When Carl returned home, he
and Dolores started a lifelong courtship, raising four children and with her support committing himself to
business and the community; and
WHEREAS, Carl Doering was President and Chairman of Walburg State Bank, expanded what was established
by his grandfather in 1913 and further expanded it into Georgetown in 1987. Carl and Dolores, with others
founded Gabriel’s Funeral Home where they served for many years on the Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Carl started the Georgetown Little League, served as Chairman of the Georgetown Recreation for
six years, was Director of the Chamber of Commerce for three years, served on the Board of Directors for the
Georgetown Housing Authority for seven years, contributed property for the start-up of the Caring Place, was
an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, served six years on the GISD School Board, served eight years on
the Georgetown City Council and two as Mayor ProTem and was elected Mayor of Georgetown in 1984; and
WHEREAS, Carl Doering has received numerous accolades and awards, which showed that his life reflected his
solid, honest work ethic and problem-solving attitude and Carl has touched so much of what Georgetown is
today – the people, the opportunities, the service and the infrastructure.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSH SCHROEDER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TX
do hereby proclaim June 13, 2023, as
CARL DOERING DAY in GEORGETOWN, TEXAS
and encourage everyone to have an attitude of service like Carl demonstrated to the community.
