HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 01.08.1923 - Solicitation of DonationsAN ORDINANCE OF THIS CITY OF GNROGETO1,"T p TEXAS, MAKING IT UNLAWFUL FOR ANY PERSON, THEIR AGENT OR ATTORNEY, TO -VIXN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THIS CITY, TO SEEK, ASKS OR SOLICIT AXY DONATIONS, FOR ANY PURPO SF : OR TO SEEK, ASK FOR OR SOLICIT ANY SUBSCRIPTIONS TO ANY DIRECTORY, OR LI1M PUBLICATION; OR TO SEEK, SOLICIT, OR ASK, FOR ANY TlIET0ERSHIP IN OR CONTRIBU- TIONS TO ANY ADVERTISING SCHEME, OF ANY CHARACTER 'FHATSOEVHR, WITHOUT FIRST HAVING OBTAINED THE ',VRITTEN CONSENT OF THE MAYOR AND A MAJORITY OF THE TZEMB] RS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE SAID CITY, AND FIXING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas. That it shall hereafter be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation, or their agent or attorney, to, within the corporate limits of the said City, seek, ask, or solicit any donations, for any purpose, whatsoever, or to seek, ask or solicit, any subscriptions to any directory or like publication; to ask, seek, or solicit, any membership in, or any contri- butions to, any advertising scheme, of any charpoter, whatso- ever, without first having obtained the written consent of the Mayor, and a majority of the members of the City Council of the said City. That any violation of this ordinance, shall be punished upon conviction, in the corporation court, by fine of not less than One, or more than One Hundred Dollars; and each act of violation, shall constitute a separate offense. Provided, however, that solicitation, for donations, made in any lodge meeting, or any church meeting, or any meeting called or being held for any charitable or religious purpose, shall not ome within the meaning of this ordinance. That the _fact that no ordinance exists regulating the soliciting for donations, and for :subscriptions to director- ies, or for like publications and for advertising schemes, makes it an imperative public necessity that the rules be sus- pended and that this ordinance become effective from and after its passage.
