HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 08.18.1941 - Bond ElectionAN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, GALLING AND ORDERING AN ELECTION TO BE HELD FOR THE PURPOSE OF DETEMINING `WHETHER OR NOT THE SAID CITY SHALL ISSUE BONDS IN THE SUM OF FORTY THOUSAND 0401000.00( DOLLARS TO PURCHASE LANDS FOR AND TO BUILD AN AIRPORT. Whereas, it has been decided by the governing bogly sof the said city, that it is necessary, proper, and for the best :interests of the said city, that the said city accept the offer of grid made by the United States, and that it purchase the necessary ]lands, and do all things necessary and proper in the construc- tion of an airport at, near, and convenient to the said city, 71MREFORE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE SAID CITY, that an election be called and hereby ordered held in and for the said city, on the 15th day of September, A. D. 19411 at which election the following proposition shall be e:ubmitted : "SHALL, the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Vezas, be J. Authorized to issue the bonds of the said City in the sum of Forty thousand ($40,000.00) Dollars, maturing; serially, during a period of twenty-five (25 years from the date of issuance, as may be ordered by the said city, and bearing interest at the rate of not exceeding (3-*%) three and one half per cent per annum, payable semiannually and evidenced by coupons, for the purpose of doing all things necessary and proper in the obtaining of all necessary lands and for the building, purchasing, erecting and improving an airport within the county and at, near and convenient to the said city; and shall the said City be authorized, through the City Council, to levy diad collect an advalo rum tax, annually on all property in the said City subjeSjdto taxation In an amount sufficient to pay the p rincipal/interest on the said bonds as the same shall accrue. That the said election shall be held, during the hours prescribed by law, at the City Fire Station, in the City Hall Building, in said City. That It. H. Cr ietzberg, is here named as presiding judge of said election, and is hereby ordered and directed to appoint such additional jud &es , clerks and assistants as he may deem necessary. That the said election shall be held in accordance with the provisions of the general laws of the State of Texas, governing such election and only qualified electors of the said City who own taxable property in the said ctiy, and Williamson County, Texas, and who have duly rendered the same for taxation, shall be qualified to vote at the said election. ALL VOTERS, who favor the proposition to issue the said bonds, shall have written or printed on thiir ballots, the words; FOR THE ISSUANCE OF THE CITY OF GEORGETO W AIRPORT BONDS. THOSE AQIINST the proposition shall have written or printed on their ballots the words: AGAINST THE ISSUANCE OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOViN AIRPORT BONDS. A copy of this ordinance, duly signed by the Mayor and attested by the City Secretary shall serve as a notice of the said election, The Mayor is ordered and directed to cause a copy of this ordinance to be posted in at least three public places within the said City, for a period of at least fifteen days prior to the date of said election; and he is further ordered and directed to cause this ordinance to be published in some news- paper of general circulation, published in said City in Williamson County, Texas, for once each week for two, consecutive weeks, with the first publication, not less than fifteen days prior to the date of said elec ion.
