HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN 06.29.2021 CC-RNotice of a Meeting of the Governing Body of the City of Georgetown, Texas Tuesday, June 29, 2021 The Georgetown City Council will meet on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 5:30 PM at the Council Chambers at 510 West 9th St., Georgetown, Texas. The City of Georgetown is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Mayor Schroeder called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. The following Council Members were in attendance: Mayor Josh Schroeder; Amanda Parr, Council Member District 1; Mike Triggs, Council Member District 3; Steve Fought, Council Member District 4; and Kevin Pitts, Council Member District 5. Shawn Hood, Council Member District 2; Rachael Jonrowe, Council Member District 6; and Tommy Gonzalez, Council Member District 7 were absent. A quorum of Council Members was present in Council Chambers and a roll call was performed. Regular Session (This Regular session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose authorized by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551.) A. Second reading of an ordinance of the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas establishing the value of the exemption from ad valorem taxes for a percentage of the appraised value of residential homesteads; repealing conflicting ordinances and resolutions; including a severability clause; and setting an effective date -- Leigh Wallace, Finance Director Wallace presented the item and reviewed the current homestead exemption for the City that was adopted in 1983 via ordinance. She noted that the at first reading the Council approved a dollar value and percent change of the greater of $10,000, or 2% which will be an annual impact to City of approximately $389,000 increment in lost revenue or $776,000 total in lost revenue. Wallace added that the dollar change in annual impact to average taxable homeowner will equal an approximate $20 lower tax bill. She then noted that after the action second reading, staff will file an updated exemption with Williamson Central Appraisal District, and no action will be needed from homeowners for currently filed homes Wallace read the caption. Council had no comments or questions. Motion by Triggs to approve the item as presented, second by Fought. Vote on motion: Parr - Yes Hood - Absent Triggs - Yes Fought - Yes Pitts - Yes Jonrowe - Absent Gonzalez - Absent Approved 4-0 (Hood, Jonrowe and Gonzalez absent). Adjournment Motion to adjourn by Parr, second by Fought.
