HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN 11.18.2019 CC-SNotice of a Special Meeting of the Governing Body of the City of Georgetown, Texas Monday, November 18, 2019 The Georgetown City Council will meet on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the Council Chambers, 510 W 9"' Street, Georgetown, Texas. The city of Georgetown is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Mayor Ross called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. The following Council Members were in attendance. Mayor Dale Ross; Valerie Nicholson, Council Member District 2; Mike Triggs, Council Member District 3; Steve Fought, Council Member District 4; Kevin Pitts, Council Member District 5; and Rachael Jonrowe, Council Member District 6. Tommy Gonzalez, District 7 was absent, and District 1 is vacant. Legislative Regular Session A. Consideration and possible action to approve a Resolution canvassing the votes of the November 5, 2019 Special Election to Fill a Vacancy, declaring the results to be official -- Robyn Densmore, City Secretary Densmore presented that item. Motion by Pitts to canvass the election results for the November 5, 2019 Special Election to Fill a Vacancy, second by Nicholson. Approved 5-0 (Gonzalez absent and District 1 vacant.) B. Consideration and possible action to approve a Resolution ordering the runoff election for Tuesday, December loth, Special Election to Fill a Vacancy -- Robyn Densmore, City Secretary Densmore presented the item. Motion by Pitts to approve a Resolution ordering the runoff election for Tuesday, December 10, 2019 Special Election to Fill a Vacancy, second by Fought. Jonrowe asked about the process to determine polling locations. Densmore responded that the County had offered one location and staff did not see a reason to move the polling location. Jonrowe asked that staff consider looking at what area of the district has the highest voter turnout. She added that there had been confusion in past elections when polling locations change. Densmore responded that staff will review. Jonrowe asked if the County would put signage or allow the City to put up signage pointing citizens to the polling location. Densmore responded that staff will discuss that possibility and staff is ready to communicate the polling location with citizens shortly after the meeting. Pitts reiterated the idea of putting up signs pointing citizens to the polling location. Mayor Ross asked the location of the polling locations for the runoff. Densmore responded that there will be only one polling location at the Williamson County Annex office which also houses the County Election Department. Mayor Ross asked if it would cost the City more money to have more polling locations. Densmore stated that she wasn't sure. Charlie McNabb, City Attorney, stated that the City could add more polling locations but the City would have to cover the costs. Approved 5-0 (Gonzalez absent and District 1 vacant.)
