Meeting Minutes
March 14, 2019
The Animal Shelter Advisory Board met Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 110 WL Walden Dr.,
Georgetown, TX 78626.
Regular Session - To begin no earlier than 6:00 pm.
(This Regular Session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose authorized
by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551.

Meeting called to order at 6:02 PM
1. Public wishing to address the Board
a. As of the time of posting, no person had signed up to address the board.
2. Recognition and introduction of Board Members — April Haughey, Animal Services Manager
(Board Liaison)
a. New board member Ned Atkins was introduced to the group.
b. Board assignments will be voted on at the April meeting.
3. Review of bylaws for the Animal Shelter Advisory Board April Haughey, Animal Services
Manager (Board Liaison)
a. April Haughey reviewed the bylaws and the attendance policy with members.
4. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes from February, 2019 — Nika Hazen,
Board Chair
a. Minutes reviewed by all present. No corrections/edits noted. Motion to accept minutes as
submitted, Keith Fruge; seconded Sarah Vigil; approved unanimously.
5. Review and possible action to approve future meeting dates and times — Nika Hazen, Board
Chair
a. A motion by Laura Klein Plunkett, seconded by Nika Hazen to keep the current meeting date
and time to the second Thursday of the month at 6 PM was unanimously approved.
6. Presentation of Animal Services Statistical and Analytical Report for February, 2019— April
Haughey, Animal Services Manager (Board Liaison)
a. 19 spays/neuters performed at the February clinic.
b. 4 adoption events held; only 13 cats and 14 dogs adopted in February.
c. 68 dog intakes and 31 cat intakes in January, slightly higher than December.
d. Increased ACO neighborhood and park patrols resulting in handling more dogs -at -large
issues.
e. A handout for new residents highlighting key City animal -related requirements is in
development.
7. Discussion on updates to proposed facilities and IT projects —April Haughey, Animal Services
Manager (Board Liaison)
a. Kennel wall modification bids due 3/25. Floor repair will be included in 2019-2020 budget.
b. Catio floor contractor for warranty repair was a no-show; company has been notified and
follow-up has been requested.
c. The City will be extending wife to the outside kennel/grounds area, providing for tablet use
by staff and volunteers. This will allow outdoor access to shelter software and data to
improve service to the public and better utilize staff/volunteer time.
d. Volunteer management software is being reviewed for shared use by Shelter and several
other city departments.
e. Background checks for shelter volunteers are now being done by the City HR Department
prior to shelter orientation meetings.
8. Review of current staffing levels —Nika Hazen, Board Chair
a. Reclassification of two open positions still in process.
b. One ACO candidate hire pending background check; another ACO candidate is needed.
Second round of interviews scheduled.
9. Presentation of upcoming adoption and community events for January 2019 — April Haughey,
Animal Services Manager (Board Liaison)
a. March 23 Vaccine Clinic scheduled.
b. Shred Fest sponsored by Wise Counsel will feature adoption event.
c. Visits to Park Place and Brookdale continue in March
10. Discussion on recent increase in Animal Control calls for bats — April Haughey, Animal
Services Manager (Board Liaison)
a. Bats found in schools. Some were trapped inside when building was sealed during daylight
hours. 35 bats found; all tested negative for rabies.
With no further business or discussion, Keith Fruge made a motion to adjourn. Sarah Vigil seconded.
