Regular Session (This Regular session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose authorized by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551.) A. Call to Order — A Special Meeting of the City Council to Canvass the Results of November 6, 2018 SPECIAL ELECTION — Mayor Dale Ross Mayor Ross called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM. All Councilmembers were in attendance, with the exception of John Hesser, Councilmember District 3.. Mayor Dale Ross, Anna Eby, Councilmember District 1, Valerie Nicholson, Councilmember District 2, Steve Fought Councilmember District 4, Kevin Pitts, Councilmember District 5, Rachael Jonrowe, Councilmember District 6 and Tommy Gonzalez, Councilmember District 7 were in attendance. B. Discussion and possible action to approve a Resolution canvassing the votes of the November 6, 2018 Special Election, declaring the results to be official — Shelley Nowling, City Secretary City Secretary, Shelley Nowling, announced that on August 14th of 2018 the City Council took action to order a special election on November 6, 2018. Nowling said the City's ballot showed Proposition A, which called for the reauthorization of the local sales and use tax in the City of Georgetown, at the rate of one-fourth of one percent to continue providing revenue for the maintenance and repair of municipal streets. She noted that this sales and use tax must be reauthorized by the voters in the City of Georgetown every four years. Nowling explained that the evening's meeting would be to canvass the results of the November 6, 2018 Special Election. She noted that the Council had been given a summary of the results of the election, as determined by the Williamson County Elections Office, and a report on the voting data by precinct. Nowling said there had been a total of 27, 710 votes placed for Proposition A. She said that 22,239 votes were for Proposition A and 5,471 votes were against Proposition A, and said 80.26% of the votes were "for' and 19.74% of the votes were "against". The Council was asked to approve a Resolution stating that the City Council officially finds and determines that the election was duly ordered and called, that proper notice of the election was given in accordance with the law, that proper election officers were duly appointed prior to the election, that the election was held in accordance with the applicable laws, that returns of the results of the election have been made and delivered, and that the City Council has canvassed the returns, in accordance with the law and the resolution calling the election. Nowling explained that approval of the Resolution states that the City Council officially finds and determines, as is evidenced on the official tabulation of votes, included in the resolution as Exhibit A, that the proposition for the reauthorization of the local sales and use tax in the City of Georgetown, at the rate of one-fourth of one percent, to provide revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets, was approved. Nowling noted that a certified copy of the Resolution would be sent to the Comptroller of the State of Texas with a map of the City of Georgetown, clearly showing its boundaries. Motion by Fought, second by Nicholson, to approve the resolution declaring the results of the November 6, 2018 Special Election to be official. Approved: 6-0 (Hesser absent) Motion by Fought, second by Nicholson, to adjourn the meeting. Approved: 6-0 (Hesser absent) Mayor Ross adjourned the meeting at 6:03 PM.
