Swimming To City Council Members: Pool Dr. Moore, Chairman of Recreation Committee, says that the matter con- cerning; the City leasing the Shell Pool S or the summer is definitely not settled with his committee. Ife himself has negotiated with Jonas Shell for the pool and Shells have stated that they will rent the pool for a period of time for instruction only this is supposed to take about 6 weeks for the $400.00 fee, but that they will not allow it any longer. Dr. Moore feels that, the kids :should be given the opportunity to swim or take lessons if at all possible. lie says that.the recreation program can still be chanfred to accomodate the swimming program. Mr. Eyeington says it might take several days or a week to put, the pool in condition. In any event, Dr. Moore wants a formal approval or rejection of the proposal the Shells have made for the $100.00 for about six weeks. PIPase give this your consideration and indicate your vote below so that I can get Dr. Moore an answer today. Thank you very much for your consideration. Yours, Jay C. Square City manager Eyeing;t.on reported that the University of Texas Restoration School of Architecture under Professor ►iu(ro Leipziger had consented to utilize the simmner class of second semester seniors to work on restoration of the square. It was pointed out that with the aid of PACT and Terrell Blodgett this was accomplished. The class congests of seven teams (each team composed of four boys) competing against each other. The City should derive seven floor plans, including models from which to select a plan and proceed with the restoration of the square project. City manager also pointed out that the Urban Renewal agency had hired Gene Hobart as planning consultant. Arrangements had been made for Mr. Hobart to meet with the council to discuss planning for the park - swinuning pool and other IMPACT -I projects. This meeting; to be held latter part of this month. Budget Mayor set July 31st for budget hearing. 23 ,Tine 6, 1907 Lift Mr. City Council :Member: Station (Shells) After much negotiations with the attorney for the Shell estate, your Mayor and City Attorney have finally reached an agreement to lay before the members of the council. Substantially it is as follows: 1. The City would obtain on its usual easement form an easement from the Shells covering approximately 4.6 acres of land that the City engineers say we need for the lift station and the sewer line below the bluff in the Country Club addition. 2. The cost would be an even $3,500.00. The easement papers are drawn and can be executed as far as we know rather rapidly. We feel that something needs to be done rather quickly. The contractor who won the bid for the work out there is about to finish in Georgetown and if he is to honor his bid he wants to know right away, otherwise Mr. Eyeington feels he will pull out. Our engineers feel that if we put the same job out again for bids -that the bids would be much high— er than those we have. It is possible that the additional costs might exceed what we have to pay for.the, easement. What are the alternates? • The matter would have to go into court and the Co,nmissioners would set the amount to pay for an easement. It could likely be $4,000.00 to 95,000.00. The first hearing could probably not take place for another 30 days, and therefore we would be somewhere between one and two months just aett.inti the figrure that the comrissi.oners would agree. on. Your City Attorney feels that we have been robbed, but that in reality we are better off to pay the sum -and proceed with our plans. I join with him and feel that we should proceed too. Tile best deal is the cheapest deal that can be made under the circumstances, and this looks like it. Please indicate your vote on bottom of this letter so that we can give the attorneys an ansiver as soon as possible and formally ratify the decision at the city council meeting next week.
