Sloan City Council Georgetown, Texas Re: Item 1, The appearance of the Georgetown Police Station. Item 2, The accumulation of junk at 1501 Pine & 15th Street. Dear Sirs: There is nothing being leveled for Urban Renewal that looks much worse than Georgetown's police station. It is a disgrace to our town. The tin front, the boarded up window pane, the un- painted door with a hole in it, the Rube Goldberg stove -pipe arraingement for a drain, projecting over the sidewalk and terminating in a small, cheap sign, point up a fact which can not be ignored: Nobody has pride enough to see to it that waht can be done to improve the station's looks is done. No don't say nothing can be done. A coat of paint, a decent gutter, a new window pane, a new painted door, and a sign large enough for the stranger to locate the station by should not entail costs which would drain the city of the last dollar in its coffers. But if this is the case, the city is operating on too narrow a budget for comfort and something should be done about that, but I just don't believe we are that broke. Signed Agnes B. Prude ('yrs. A. P.P. ) City )fall Motion by Gold and seconded by Brock that bid in the amount of Hoof Repair$832.00 to repair City hall and fire station roofs be approved. Motion carried by unanimous vote. Item 2 causes me some embarrasment because it sounds like I was "gunning for" Soupy Williams and I am not. Mr. Sloan, and you fellows on the Council, drive by the corner of Pine and 15th, slow down, observe the cluttered -with -junk look; the over- flow that pours over into the vacant lot; take a good look at the construction machinery, the brokendown equipment, the odds and ends that are already hauled there. Also, the weeds which abound there, never cut, and the cans that lie there. Is THIS what we want to happen to our vacant lots all over our town? Is this what you would like to happen close to where you live? Put is this way: Every vacant lot is a potential graveyard for abandoned cars, parts, and rusty chunks of Cz metal. Every unmoved lot is a potential fire, come dry season, as well as being an eyesore and a blight on the landscape. Something can be done about such conditions and I believe now is the time for you to do Vit before lot -abuse becomes a fad. Sincerely, Signed Agnes B. Prude ('yrs. A.
