HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN 10.10.1966 CC-R481 October 10, 1966 The City Council met on the above date in regular session, Mayor Jay C. Sloan presiding. The following Councilmen and officials were present: Hubert Brock, Doyle Lyda, A. W. Hoyt, Jr., William R. Eanes, Edward Lee Evans, City Manager Charles D. Eyeington, City Secretary Claud Eads, City Electrical Supt., Claudie Mayo, City Police Chief Frank Masur and City Attorney Joe B. McMaster. Others present were: Mrs. Iierbert Baker, William Shell, Gary Gibbs, James Rehler and George Gregg. Motion by Eanes and seconded by Hoyt that minutes of meetings held September 12th and September 26th, 1966 be approved as presented. Motion carried by unanimous vote. Motion by Brock and seconded by Eanes that General Fund bills in the amount of $4,703.68 and Utility bills in the amount of $23,456.50 be approved. Motion carried by unanimous vote. Meat Mayor suggested that Manager Eyeington check the Meat inspection Inspection charges made by locker plant and procedure followed by Veterinarians in inspecting livestock at Locker plant. Tax Roll Motion by Iioyt and seconded by Lyda that Tax Collector C. S. Sanders be charged with following amount of Taxes: Real Estate Personal Property Total Value Tax 1966 89671,280 1,370,210 10,041,490 65,269.08 1965 89068,500 1,316,590 9,385,090 61,003.08 Increase 602,780 53,620 6561400 4,266.60 482 Taxes Collected for 12 months ending: August 31, 1966 --- $70,622.21 or 115.77% of roll of $61,003.08 August 31, 1965 --- 56,337.67 or 98.5% of roll of $57,173.70 Difference 14,284.54 Motion carried by unanimous vote. Library AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A LIBRARY BOARD FOR THE CITY Ordinance OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS: PRESCRIBING ITS MEMBERSHIP, THEIR DUTIES, TERMS OF OFFICE AND QUALIFICATIONS. Motion by Hoyt and seconded by Eanes that Ordinance be read, ordinance was read. Motion by Eanes and seconded by Brock that Ordinance be passed. Votes as follows: Ayes: Eanes, Hoyt, Lyda and Brock (Evans was not present at time vote was cast) Noes: None. Mayor declared ordinance passed. See Ordinance Book II, Page 34. Library The following were appointed by Mayor to Library board: Board Mrs. Anna Aiken, Chairman Mrs. Clara Scarbrough Mrs. Frances Springer Mrs. Mildred Gervasi Mrs. Charlotte Eanes Mr. E. W. Keith Ex officio members of Library Board are: Joe McMaster, City Attorney Mayor Jay, C. Sloan Mrs. Bettie B. Walter, Librarian' Street Motion by Hoyt and seconded by Brock that yield signs be placed at Sign 6th at 7th. Stop sign for east and west traffic on 6th at College. Motion carried. Street Council discussed naming of Boulevard in Urban renewal area. Mayor U. Renewal suggested that Urban renewal board name street. Humble Joe B. McMaster, City Attorney, discussed status of Humble Oil Company's Oil suit against the City of Georgetown. Suit Letter from Superintendent Longlois of Georgetown Schools requesting that schools Georgetown be billed at same electric rate as Southwestern. Mayor suggested that Man - Schools ager Eyeington write letter stating that since S.U.'s consumption is a - Rate bout 6 times the schools and since we are furnishing about 1600 killowatt hours of electricity to Georgetown Schools for flood lighting of the high school and Junior High ground lighting at both Elementary schools systems. The Council does not think it advisable to lower the school's rate at this time. Wesleyan Wesleyan Home requested a lower electric rate. Mayor stated that he Home would reply to their request; however rates would not be changed, also Wesleyan home's penalty of $164.17 which represents late charge of previous month be collected. Shell Estate Motion by Evans and seconded by Eanes that Manager Eyeignton be auth- Eminent Domain orized to proceed with Eminent Domain on Shell Estate property in North- west Section of town near Country Club Road, as proposed by City Attorney McMaster. Votes as follows: Ayes: Eanes, Evans, and Hoyt. Noes: Brock and Lyda.
