The City Council met in regular session on the above date, Mayor J. T. Atkin
presiding, The following were present Alderman J, H. Compton, Elmer Fredericson
Ralph Freund. Kennie Wilcox, A. C. Woodfin, City Manager Lee N1ack,Assistant
H. A. Partain, Chief of Police A. P. Pickle, City "ttorney W. H. Nunn,
C. S. Sanders and Lenard McLaughlin.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and on motion of Aldo Freund
seconded by Aldo Ailcox were approved as read.
Manager Lee Black read his reports for March, the reports of other officials
and the accounts to be approved and paid in the amount of #349.11 on the motion
of Aldo Woodfin seconded by Ald. Compton the accounts were ordered paid and all
reports filed.
Mayor Atkin appointed Aldo Woodfin and Fredericson to canvass city election returns
for Aldermen held April 2, 1957, the count was as follovis.
TO THE HON. J. T. A`PKIN, MAYORS
We your committee, appointed to canvass the returns of the City election, held
April 2, 1957, to elect three aldermen for the ensuing two years, report as
follows;
That Kennis Wilcox, Jr. received 149 votes, and that J. H. Compton received
138 votes and Ralph A. Freund received 137 votes; and that these three in the
order named, received the highest number of votes that were oast for any person
at the said election. The above names were on the printed ballots and that
each of them were duly elected aldermen of this City.
The following names received the following votes.

Judge W. H. Nunn delivered the Oath of Office to the three elected Aldermen.

Public Improvements, Mayor Atkin, A, C. Woodfin, Kennie Y9ilcox, Jr. J. H. Compton
yor Atkin appointed Kennie Wilcox Jr, to serve as Mayor Pro -Tem for the
ensuing year. The above appointments were approved by the Council.
A clean up cypaign for residents and business concerns was set for the April -12-11-
to April_ during which time the City trucks would daily haul off all
trash and Etc; placed near the curb.
On motion of Ald. Campton and seconded by Ald. Woodfin, Manager Lee Black was
authorized to take out insurance on the four pieces of play ground equipment
in the Park.
A general discussion was held on things to do to improve the park, safety cables
to be installed on the rock wall, safety signs around ball park, clean out springs
improve back -stops at Little League field, lights on 12th, street and Norht town,
Paving repairs, and extending office bldgf and building of police department.
There being no further business on motion of Ald. Wilcox and seconded by Ald.
Compton , the council adjourned.
