HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN 02.09.1959 CC-R195 February 9, 1959 The City Council met in regular session with the following present; Mayor Forbes - Aldermen, Compton - Fredericson - Freund - Jones and Wilcox - Manager Black - Assistant Partain - City Attorney McClain - Mr. C. S. Sanders, Tom DeBoseq Jack Morris, J. J. Jones, Jr., Sebern Barker and A. W. Bowen. M#Yor Forbes called on Mr. Jones, Barker and Bowen who stated that they were representing the I.O.O.F. Cemetery and requested that the Council grant some tax relief on the association's property now occupied by the Lone Star Gas Company. The Council referred the matter to Attorney McClain for investigation. The Mayor then called on Mr. DeBose and Mr. Morris, representatives of R. A. Underwood inc. of Dallas, Texas, who outlined the necessary proceedurers for the printing and sale of municipal bond issue. Manager Black then read the reports for the month of January and submitted bills of the General Fund in the amount of =510.91. Motion by Alderman Wilcox - seconded by Compton - that reports be approved and bills paid. Motion Carried. TAX ORDINANCE - SEE ORDINANCE BOOK PAGE # / / : Motion made by Alderman Wilcox - sesonded by Compton - that the tax ordinance for the ensuing term be read in full. Roll Call Vote was as follows; AYES - Compton, Freund, Fredeeicson, Jones and Wilcox. NOES -none. TAX ORDINANCE -SECOND READING: Motion by Alderman Compton - seconded by Freund - that this ordinance contain the emergency clause, and the usual rule for the passing of ordinances be suspended and ordinance read by caption hereafter. Roil Call Vote was as followss AYES - Compton, Fredericson, Freund, Jones and Wilcox. NOES -none. Ordinaoee read by caption and passed second reading, Roll Call Vote as follows: AYES - Compton, Fredericson, Freund, Jones and Wilcox. NOES -none. TAX ORDINANCE -THIRD AND FINAL READINGS Ordinance read by caption and on Motion by Alderman Wilcox - seconded by Jones - ordinance was passed on Roll Call Vote:x as follows; AYES - Compton, Fredericson, Freund, Jones and Wilcox. NOES -none. SALARY ORDINANCE - SEE ORDINANCE BOOK PAGE #�: Motion by Alderman Fredericson - seconded by Jones - that ordinance be read in full. Roll Cali Vote as follows; AYES - Compton, Fredericson, Freund, Jones and Wilcox. NOES -none. SALARY ORDINANCE -SECOND READING: Motion by Alderman Compton -seconded by Fredericson - that the usual rule for passing ordinances be suspended because of the emergency clause and that this ordinance be read by caption. Roll Cali Vote as follows; AYES - Compton Fredericson, Freund, Jones and Wilcox. NOES -none. SALARY ORDINANCE -THIRD READING: Motion by Alderman Compton - seconded by Fredericson that ordinance be Tedd by caption for third and final reading. Roll Call Vote as follows; AYES - Compton, Fredericson, Freund, Jones and Wilcox. NOES -none Mayor Forbes then read notice of city election to be held the first Tuesday in April that being April 7th., and announced the appointment of Mr. H. H. Pennington as Election Judge. Mr. Black reported that the city employees had voted 100% in favor of participation In the Texas Municipal Retirement System. Motion by Alderman Compton - seconded by Freund - that council approve city participation in this program. Roll Call Vote as follows; AYES - Compton, Fredericson, Freund, Jones and Wilcox. NOES -nonce. NOES none Motion by Alderman Compton'- seconded by Freund - that the usual rule for passing ordinances be suspended due to the emergency clause and that ordinance be read heaeafter by caption. Roll Call Vote as follows; AYES -Compton, Fredericson, Freund, Jones & Wilcox, Noes -none. RETIREMENT ORDINANCE -SECOND READING: Ordinance read by caption and passed on motion by Alderman Wilcox - seconded by Jones. Roll Call Vote as follows; AYES -Compton, Fredericson Freund, Jones and Wilcox. NOES -none RETIREMENT ORDINANCE -THIRD READING: Ordinance read by caption and passed on motion of Alderman Freund - seconded by Compton. Roll Call Vote as follows; AYES -Compton, Freund, Fredericson, Jones and Wilcox. NOES -none There being no further business, Wilcox - council adjourned.
