HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN 01.12.1959 CC-R194 January 12, 1959 The City Council met in regular session with the following presenti Mayor Forbes - Aldermen Compton, Fredericson, Freund, Jones .nd Wilcox; Manager Black, Assistant Partain, City attorney McClain, Secretary McCook and Supe-2n`!,dent of Electrical System Mayo. Minutes of the last meeting were read and corrected as follows; In reference to surplus property that city hopes to acquire, number of trans- formers should read 27 and estimated total value should be $16,000.00. Minutes approved with above corrections. Mr. Black then reported on his trip to see about the purchase of the surplus property. He reported that only one other town has applied for this property and that he was ancouraged over the prospects of Georgetown in acquiring this property. Definite word should be received sometime in the next few weeks. Mr. Black then read the reports for the month of December and submitted bills totaling $1,110.48 against the General Fund. Motion by Alda•nao Freund seeonded by Compton - that reports be approved and bills be paid. Motion Carried. Mayor Forbes read a letter from the Lone Star Gas Company informing the city that the company had made application with the Railroad Ccmnisssion for a rate increase on city gate prices to aztad upon at a January meeting of the commission. Mr. Black informed the council that this meeting had been.post- poned at the request of the Texas League of Municipalities. Mr. Black led a discussion of a rate proposal to supply electrical power to Mr. Sneed from Austin, Texas to operate a crushed stone plant to be located on the Williams Property south of town. Motion made by Alderman Compton - seconded by Fredericson - that Mr. Black be authorized to negotiate with Mr. Sneed on the basis of the rates discussed. Motion Carried. After a general discussion of the employee retirement program, Mr. Black explained that it would be for the Council to pass an ordinance.if the city wished to participate in the program of tbb Texas Municipal Retire- ment System. Motion was made by Alderman Fredeeicson - seconded by Compton - that all the employees of the city lie canvassed by mail and ask to indicate if they wished as individuals to participate in this.program. Motion Carried. Mot6nn made by Alderman Compton - seconded by Freund - that Mr. Black's salary be increased by $50.00 per month effective with January of 1959. Motion Carried. Mr. Black then reported on a meeting with a property valuation expert and the estimated cost of revaluation progri^► for the city. After a.discussion it was decided to have a joint meeting with* the School Board and find out if the school would be interested in a joint property revaluation program.
