HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN 03.10.1958 CC-R181 March 10, 1958 The City Council met in regular session on the above date, Mayor J. T. Atkin presiding with the following present, Aldermen, Compton, Fredericson, Freund, Wilcox and Woodfin - City Manger Black, Assistant Partain, Chief of Police Pickle, City Attorney Nunn and Secretary McCook. The following also met with the council; Mr. Frank Faris, State Highway Resident Engineer, Attorney W. R. Stump and Mr. Russell Parker, Mr, Gene Longinio and Mr. Guy Bizzell representing the fire department and Mr. Brennan and Mr. Allen representing the telephone company. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and on motion of Alderman Campton, seconded by Fredericson minutes were approved as read. Mayor Atkin then called an Longinio and BteaYtW who requested that the council consider somas action to control the racing to firea by the general public. They also requested that the council most with the fire department next Monday, March 17, 1958 at 7:30 PM to discuss other problems of the local department. Council agreed to meet. Attorney Stump and Mr. Parker then presented plans for the developing of land owned by Mr. Parker acaross the road from Crestview Addition and north of city limits. No offical action requested at this time. An applicant for the Police Department was introduced to the council and promised prompt action on his application. Mr. Faris then explained the plans of the State Highway Department for construction on U. S. Highway #81 between 6th. do 9th. Streets in order that this section of highway meet new weight requirements for traffic. The estimated coat to the city is $ 100.00 for the raising of manhole covers and Mr. Faris requested action an aonatruction ordinance in order that there be no delay in the letting of contracts for the construction this summer. LQNSTRKM ORDINANCE: Motion by Alderman Fredericson, seconded by Compton, that construction ordinance be read in full. Motion carried as follows; Ayes- Campton, Fredericao n, Freund, Wilcox and Woodfin Does- none. Ordinance read see Page # M Ordinance Book. Motion by Alderman Freund, seconded by Wiloox, that the usual rule for passing ordinances be suspended because of the emergency clause and the same be read by caption, passed its second reading, motion carried as follows; Ayes- Campton, Fredericson, Freund, Wilcox and Woodfin - Noes- none. Ordinance Read BZ-Captiont On motion by Alderman Compton, seconded by Woodfin, ordinance was passed on third and final reading with the following votes; Ayes- Compton, Fredericson, Freund, Wilcox and Woodfin- Nose- none. Mr. Brennan and Mr. Allen led a general discussion of the telephone rate situation in Georgetown and were invited to return and most with the council at the regular meeting text May. Manager Black then read the monthly reports for February and submitted for approval bills totaling $433.98 from the General Fund. Motion by Alderman Woodfin, seconded by Freund that reports be approved and the bills paid. Motion carried. Mr. Black then reported that an investigation, Mr. Lambs bid on painting the reservoir was not acceptable and that he would attempt to get a third bid by next council meeting in order that council may take action on painting the reservior. There being no further business, on motion by Alderman Campton, seconded by Frederioson, the council adjourned.
