Tuesday, Nov. 1f, 1956.
The City Council met in regular session on the above date, Mayor J. T,
Atkin presiding, the following aldermen were presents J. H.,Compton,
Be K. Fredericson, Ralph A. Freund, Kennie Tilcox, Jr., and A. C. `
Woodfin, Members: Lee Co Black, city manager; ,J�-_k__Partain, assistant
manager;Wo H. Nunn, attorney; A. P. Pickle, chief of police; M. L. Cates,
secretary,
The minutes were read and approved with additions by the Mayor, on
motion of Aldo Fredericson, seconded by Aldo Freund.
Mayager Lee C. Black read his report for the preceding month, in
eluding the reports of officials , and the accounts to be approved
and paid in the amount of $971,429 which amount were ordered paid,
and the reports received and filed on motion of Aldo Compton, seconded
by Aldo Wilcox,
For the purchase of a Pick-t)p, the following sealed bids were opened:
Freund Motor Co,, 1957 GMC, with trade-in #2.000069519740.00
We G. Lord & Co., L958 new Ford iton pickup,

Compton Cherocrlet Company bid being the lowest, Ald - i moved
that the Council accept saaapt the same and Aldo Freund seconded the
motion. The motion was ppssed unanimously.
In Executive Session, on the motiolt of Ald.'Toodfin, seconded by Aldo
Fredericson, the Council unanimously appointed James Cole as policeman,
to begin duties as such at once at a salary of $225.00 per month; also
setting the date for Dan Dowda, previously appointed assistant chief of
police at a salary of $275.009 to begin his duties December let, 1956.
At the regular session of the City Council held October 8th, 19569
on motion of Alderman Kennie Tilcox, Jr., seconded by Alderman A. C.
Woodfin, the Council Unanimously voted to destroy by burning all
paid Cancelled BONDS and COUPONS. Therefore, the Council.receiving'
the list of.such paid and cancelled bonds and coupons at this session,
set Wednesday, November lf, for the burning of said paid instruments,
at 10 o'clock A. M. on the lot formerly occupied by the old stand-
pipe. For verification of the burning of said Bonds and Coupons
see Page 160 (Next Page).
There occuring no further business, the Council adjourned.
