Griffith, presiding, the following members being present: Aldermen: J. T. Atkin, E. K. Frederieson, Fred C. Smith, A. C. Woodfin and Kennie 7ileox, Jr. City Manager Zee C. Black, W. H. Nunn, city attortngy; C. S. Sanders, Tex Assessor-Collaetor;.A. P. Pickle, nhtef of police; 11. L. Cstes, Clerk. Vinutes of the previous regular and called meetings were read, and on motion of Ald. Atkin, seconded by Ald. Woodfin, were approved. Committee of citizens from the southern portion of the eity, adja- cent to city dump gatounds were present to complain of the existing nauseating conditions created from the dump grounds, which were presented to the council by Mr. moven V.T. Sherrell, for discussion of eliminating said conditions. No conclusions, other than the continued efforts of the city council to better conditions. Yr. J. T. Kirby, of Livingston, Texas, appeared before the Council for the purpose of compromising with the city a previous notification of a contemplated damage suit in the principal amount of 4109000.00 for alleged injuries to his wife while riding in a ear on'the streets of the City of Georgetown, which car was being'driven by another person. His pntffar was for the amount of $1500.00. The Council took the pattet under consideration. On motion of Ald. E.K.Fredericson, seconded by Ald. Kennie Wilcox, Jr. the following resolution was unanimously passed: " Whereas, Providence has seen fit to remove from our midst our friend and fellovitownsman, Dr. "'alter S. Yartin. " Whereas, he was for many years a public official, a member of the City Administration as Publie Health Officer, " Therefore, Be It Resolved, First that the City of Georgetown, it Regular Session, express its deep regret because of the loss to our community, " His Life was dedicated to the health and upbuilding of the community in which he lived; " Second, that we tender our heartfelt stTmpathtes to the be- reaved whom he left behind; " Andlastly, that these resolutions be spread upon'the minutes of the City Council and a copy thereof be sent to his family, and a copy be sent to the press. "Signed; C. S. Griffith, Atkin, Smith, Frederieson, ffilcox, Woodfin" On motion of Ald. Fred C. Smith, seconded by Ald. Kennie Tilcox, ,Tr., the mayor was authorized to renew the cotton yard lePse with the Vet- eran8s Association for the additione,l period ststect in the original contract. On motion of Ald. Woodfin, seconded by Ald 'Smith, City llanhger Lee C. Black was authorized to pay the'Layne Texas Company for drilling wells as soon as each installment is due. Bids for the purchase by the city of police car were opened, as follows: Freund Yotor Co.k-no bid. Treuthardt IrOtorSq $1875.00 Compton Chevrolet, 1403.83 W. G. Lord & Co., 1337.63 On motion of $ld. Smith, seconded by A1d.Frederieson the Council authorized the City Yana.ger, to investigate details of bids, then purchase from the bidder thst complied most fully with specifications. This apparently was the W. G. Lord & Co., of Georgetown. The YF%yor n€med Yr. Claud Ends snd Yr. JOe Dsvis as an auditing committee, to audit the 1951 books of the city. On motion of Ald. Frederieson, seconded by Ald. Toodfin the Council approved the appointment. Ynyor Griffin appointed Aldermen Kennie Wilcox, Jr., and Fred C. Smith to canvas the returns of the election held on April 1, 1952. "Dear Sir: "I hereby tender my resignation Ps alderman of thts'!ittyof to take effect at once and ask that you accept such resignation 4nd(.,tJiat you call an election to fill the vacancy. I take this action by reason of the fast that I:,ha.ve been elected Yayor and I expect to accept the position and this would create a vaoency, but I wish you to call the election befor your term of office expires. J. T. Atkin". on motion of Ald. F. C. Smith, seconded by Ald 'Aoodfin, the above resignation was accepted by the Council. Whereupon Xhyor S..C. Griffith called an election for the purpose of electing an Alderman to succeed J. T. Atkin for for the unexpired term, to be held Tuesday, 39 1952, naming Yr. H. H. Pennington, supervising Judge.
