July 12, 1948
The City Council met in regular monthly session on the above date,
Mayor g. S. Griffith, presidfng, the following Aldermen and officials
being present: Lee C. Black, city manager. Aldermen: X. T. Atkin,
C. C. Hamilton, W. P. Hoffman, Jr., Sam F. Harris, Sam F. !Wilcox.
OfficersT C. S. Sandpre, assessor -collector, A. P. Pickle, marshall;
M. L. Cates, Secretary.
On motion of Ald. Harris, the council approved the minutes of the
meetings, previously held.
City Manager Read his monthly reprnt including the report of the
city treasurer, the marshall, and the bills and accounts in the amount
of $593.77. On motion of Aldo Harris, Seconded by Aldo Hoffman,
the reports of all officials were received and filed and all bills
and acciunts were ordered paid.
A committee originated out of the literal civic organizations in the
city with a viewn of simplifying the manner of support of such or-
ganizations, by regulation of soliciting campaigns, by establishing
a eomOunity chest drgaRization, was present at this meeting, requesting
the City Council to endorse such enterprise by the appointment of
a committee whose duty will be to complete the proposed plans, as
suggested above; A motion was made by Aldo C. C. Hamilton, seconded
by Ald Tileox that the Council approve said proposal, and the following
personnel be proposed as the desired committee:

A. C. IRoodfin
afire. J. Frank Clark
James William Dorgan
D. M. Dickson
The motion was carried by unanimous vote of the Council.
It Was movedby Aldo Harris and Sec. by Aldo Atkin, that the city
have a seal coat placed on some street adjacent to the public square,
for experimental purposes, the cost for same being approximately
$160.00 for the 80x300 feet, or thereabouts.
There occuring no further business the Council adjourned.
