HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 08.26.1986- Tourism Task ForceA RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A TOURISM TASK FORCE WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown has listed adoption of an Economic Policy Statement as one of its goals and recognizes the promotion of tourism as a significant part of such policy; and WHEREAS, the city is responsible for properly disbursing revenue from the hotel/motel tax and now discharges that responsibility in part through an agreement with the Chamber of Commerce to act as its agent in promoting tourism - an agreement which will continue until August 31, 1987; and WHEREAS, the Council recognizes that changes in the community (such as: increases in population, in businesses, in community attractiveness through the Main Street Program and preservation efforts by organizations and private businesses,'and in national recognition for the enhanced programs of Southwestern University) may, require new plans and broader cooperation for the most effective use of the hotel/motel tax revenue; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN: A) That an ad hoc Tourism Task Force is hereby created composed of six members: 1) The City Manager or his designee. 2) From two members nominated by the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor will recommend one for council approval. 3) From two members nominated by the Board of Directors of the Downtown Georgetown Association, the Mayor will recommend one for council approval. 4) From two members nominated by the Board of Directors of the Georgetown Heritage Society, the Mayor will recommend one for council approval. 5) A member of the Cabinet of Southwestern University. 6) A Citizen at large recommend by the Mayor and approved by the city council. B) That the Task Force is charged with two duties, to be accomplished as soon as expedient: 1) After defining tourism, to recommend to the City Council a tourism task force resolution page 1 of 2 plan for the most effective use of the hotel/motel tax revenues for the promotion of tourism for Georgetown which will include a coordinated, broad -based effort of both the public sector and private businesses and institutions. 2) To recommend to the Council a system for measuring the effect of the plan on the number of tourists and the amount of business profits and tax revenues.
