Smith presidingV the following being present:Aldermen; Buchholz, Chastain, Hamilton, Roffman, Wilcox. City Manager, Lee C. Black. M. L. Cates, secretary, C. S. Sanders, tax assessor and collector, and A. P. Pickle, city marshal. Also the Mayor and Aldermen -elect for the ensuing term of office. On motion of Alderman Chastain the minutes of the previous sessions of the council were approved. Motion was made by Alderman Buchholz, seconded by Alderman "Wilcox to receive and file the reports of of Treasurer Miss Estella Byrom. The motion carried. On motion of Alderman Tilcox all approved accounts were ordered paid. On motion of,Alderman S. E. Wilcox, duly seconded, the city voted authorization to The Sheriff's Posse for the removal of a building on city property near the rodeo pens to a more convenient location, indthe same vacinity: Resolution Committeeman Chastain presented a resolution of which the following is the Caption, the resolution in full appearing on page 180-A of this minute books "A RES0MUTI0N, of the -City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas, disclaiming and relinquishing all right title and interest of t the said City in and to the strip of land running from College Street of said City East to the M. K. & T. Depot, across the Clamp Addition to the sid City; at a place between and equal distance from Rth Street and 8th Street; which said strip of land is designated as a street on the map of said city of Record in Vol. 26, 13age 321 of the Deed of Records of Williamson County, Texas, analis shown as 'Clamp Street' on the Map that is in Common Use by said City." On motion of Alderman Buchholz, seconded by Alderman Hamil- ton the said resolution was carried unanimously. On motion -of Ald,rman Chastain, City Manager Lee C. Black was ' granted authority, unanimously, to putchase a carload of piping. On motion of Alderman Hamilton the Council approved the bill (re- sented by City manager Black, created by the purchase of a tractor and other neceaary equipment tbth the same. On motion of Alderman Hoffman, seconded by Alderman Buchholz the Council unanimously -approved a lease contract between the City of Georgetown, and the United States of.America, leasing 481 square feet of space on the ground floor of the Eubank Building, located at 114 East Eighth Street, Georgetown, Texas, further identified as three rooms joining Hast side of building facing north, for the term beginning "March 189 1946 and ending June 399 1945: On motion of Alderman Chastain, seconded by Alderman Tilcox the Coun it unanimously voted to enter in to Contract with William A. Brady each party agreeing to execute a standard engineeting contract with fees in keeping with the standard fees of the work undertaken as a supplement to this contract. (Contract hereto attached) A Motion was made andpassed that the Mayor appoint a consulting com- mittee to cooperate with the contractors proposing the digging of a city water well, in the location for said well. The committee in addition to city manager Black, Alderman C. C. Hamilton and Alderman J. R. Chastain, Mayor Smith appointed Alderman J. R. Chastain and Alderman S. B. Wilcox, gre a committee to canvass the retunre of the election held the 2nd Day of April, 1946, The Committee reported as followss 181 Page 2 Minutes of April 8, 1946 "We,your committee appointed to canvass the returns of the City Election held on April 2, 194:69 beg to report we find the results of said election as follows: For Mayor: C. S. Sanders.........217 Geo, Co Hester...9..9.237 Robt, Cooper.......... 1 For Alderman: Sam E, Harris........•310 Marvin Behrens........193 W. P. Hoffman, Jr.....359 Edward Lee Evans...... 2 Respectfully submitted, J. R. Chastain S. F. Wilcox, Cotmittee. It Appearing from the above report that Mr, -George C. Hester, having received a majority of votes cast was duly elected as Mayor of the City of Georgetown, Texas, for the ensuing term of two years. It also appearing from the results of the election as reported above that there being only two Aldermen to be alected at said election, Sam E. Harris and W. P. Hoffman, Jr., received the necessary ma- jority of votes for election, therefore were elected as aldermen of the City of Geprgetown, Texas for the ensuing two years term. Mayor M. F. Smith declared Mr. Hester duly elected Mayor, and Messrs Sam E. Harris and W. P. Hoffman, Jr.., duly elected aldermen, and administered the oath of office to each.
