December 14th, 1942
The City Council met in regular session on the above date, Mayor M. F.
Smith presiding, the following aldermen and officers were present:
Aldermen F. E. Buchholz, J. R. Chastain, C. C. Hamilton, W. P. Hoffman,
Jrl* and Sam By Wilcox. Officers: Acting Attorney W. H. Nunn, City Marshal
Albert May, Assessor and Collector Calvin S. S. Sanders, M. L. Cates
Secretary, and Manager R. E. Ward.
On the motion of Alderman Hamilton, the minute of the previous meeting
were approved.
On mbtion of Alderman Chastain, seconded by Alderman -Hoffman, all
approved accounts were ordered paid.
On motion of Alderman S. F. Wilcox, seconded by Alderman.C. C. Hamilton,
the Council unanimously approved the reemployment of R. E. Ward manager
of Georgetown 'dater and Light Plant and street commissioner of another
year at the salary heretofore paid for such services.
The Mayor -Reappointed Hon. Wh, H. Nunn as attorney for the city for
another year. On motion of Alderman Chastain, seconded by Alderman
Wilcox the Council approved the appointment.
0n motion of Alderman J. R. Chastain, seconded by Alderman Hoffman
The Mayor was authorized to convey to Cllr. A* E. Hill, two tracts of
land as described in Field Notes as prepared by Mr. Jpha N. Ellyson,
of the Guarantee Abstract Compant of Georgetown. (See Description
in Ehhibit "A", page 120-A).
Ordinance Committeeman J. R. Chastain presented" anpf ordinance authorizing
the issuance of permits of convenience and necessity for operation of
Taxies for the -hauling of passengers for hire in said city, fixing a penalty fAX
for violation of same and declaring -an emergency, and moved that it be read

The Ordinancerbad in fullas follows:
-An Ordinance of the•City of Georgetown, Texas, authorizing the is-
��,suance of permits of convenience and necessity for the operation of
Taxies for the -hauling of passengers for hire in said city, fixing a
penalty for its violation, and declaring an emergency:
Be it ordained by the City of Georgetown# Texas, that no person shall
operate a Taxi nor pursue the business of hauling passangers for'from one
place to another with in said city without first hating secured a permit
from the said city to pursue such business and that any person violating same
shall be fined in any sum not exceeding one ($100.00) Hundred dollars.
That the City Secretary Shall issue to every person the permit above
mentioned when ordered so to do by the City Council and shall collect a
fee of $1.Q0 for issuing same.
That any person desiring such permit shall satisfy the City Council
that there is a necessity therefor and"shall show that he is fully quali-
fied and equipped, and is oa character to Purdue such business with
reasonable safety the the p blit.
That the fact that there is no suitable regulation of the Taxi busi-
ness in the City of Georgetown, Texas, creates an emergency making it
necessary that the rules for passing ordinances be suspended and that this
ordinance be passed and that it take effect from and after its passage,

On motion of Alderman C. C. Hamilton, -seconded by Alderman WpfP. Hoffman, Jr.
that the said ordinate iaa iaaxvaxxzat be passed to its second reading, taht
the usual rules for passing ordinances be suspended, that the said ordinance
be read by caption. The motion passed by the following vote: Ayes --Buch-
holz, Chastain, Hamilton, Hoffman, Wilcox. Noes --none.
The Ordinance was Tedd by Caption. On motion of Alderman 3, E. Wilcox,
seconded by Alderman F. R. Buchholz, that the said ordinance be passed
to its third reading, the rules be suspended and the same be read by
caption. Motion carried byX the following vote; Ayes --Buchholz, Chastain,
Hamilton, Hoffmah, Wilcox. Noes --None

Ordinance read by caption. Cn motion of Alderman J. R. Chastain, seconded
by Alderman F. E. Buchholx, the said foregoing Ordinance was fi tally passed
the following being the vote: Ayes --Buchholz* Chastain,. Hamilton, -Hoffman,
Wilcox. Noesv-None,
The Mayor declared the said ordinance duly and constitutionally passed.
