Smith, presiding and the following Aldermen and officers being present: Aldermen P. E. Buchholz, J. R. Chastain, C. C. Ham- ilton, W. P. Hoffman, Jr., and S. E. Wilcox. Officres, W. H. Nuian, city attorney: C. S. Sanders, assessor and collector; Albert May marshal, M. L. Cates, secretary, and Manager of Utilities R. E. Ward. On motion of Alderman Chastain the minutes of the previous session were approved as read. On motion of Alderman Wilcox seconded by Alderman Hoffman all approved accounts were ordered paid. The report of Assessor C. S. Sanders wage received and filed on motion of Alderman Wilcox. Ordinance Committeeman Chastain presented the following ordinance, and moved that the same be readin full. mhe motion was seconded by Alderman Buchholz, and was carried, the following being th the vote: Ayes --Buchholz, Chastain, "amilton, Hoffman and "Tilcox. "The fact that it is deemed for the be$t interest of the said city that the said office be discontinued,.and that the performing legal services for the said'eity," be employed. with thdvq consent of the City Council of the said City, creates and emergency and public Ae- cessity that the rules requiring ordinances to be read at three separs ate meetings be suspended and that this ordinance be at once passed and that it take effect from an& after passage." On motion of AldermanChastain, seconded by Alderman Wilcox that the said above ordinance be passed to its second reading was voted upon and carried unanimously, the following being the vote Ayes --Buchholz, Chastain, HNXTI I, Hoffman, "Vilcox. Noes --None. On motion of Alderman J. R. Chasataun, seconded by Alderman W. P. Hoffman, Jr., that the usual rules governing the passage of ordinances be and are hereby suspended, that the said ordinance be read by caption, and passed to its third reading was passed, the following being the vote: Ayes --Buchholz, Chastain, XNAL M9 Hoff- man, Wilcox. Noes --None. On motion of Alderman $. E. Wilcox, seconded by Ald. J. R. Chastain, that the usual rules for passing ordinances be suspended thit the said Ord.be read by cation, and finannly passed, unan- imously carried by the following vote. Ayes --Buchholz, Chastain, Hoffman, Wilcox. Noes --None. Mayor- Pro Tem Hamilton declared the said ordinance rwas passed and approved this the 13th day of July A. D. 1942, ORDS TO EMPLOY ATTORNEY ---- An Ordinance Authorizing the Mayor to employ an Attorney for the City was presented by Ord. Committeeman J. R. Chastain, who moved that the same be read in full. The motion was seconded by Alderman W. P. Hoffman, Jr., and was passed by the following vote: Ayeb4oBuchholz, Chastain, Hoffman, Wilcox. Noes --None The Ordinance was read in full. On motion of Alderman J. R. Chaskiin, seconded by Alderman S. E. '"ilcox, that the usual rules for passing ordinances be and are hereby suspended, that the said ordi- nance be read by caption and passed to its second reading waa car- ried by the following vote: Ayes -Buchholz, Chastain, Hoffman, Wilcox. Noes --None. Chastain, seconded by Alderman Wilcox, the rules were again suspeaded, the Ord. read by Cation, and was gassed finally, the following being the vote; Ayes -Buch- holz, Chastain, Hoffman, Wilcox. Noes -None. Mayor Pro Tem Hamilton declared the above ordinance duly passed and approved this 13th day of July, A..
