HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN 08.22.1941 CC-SMe Georgetown, Texas August 22, 1941 The City Council met in adjourned session on the above date, pursuant td a request from committees, representing both branches of t -4e Chambers of Commeree and other citizens in terested in the possibility of purchasing the pinpoted airport site without awaiting the outcome of the bond issue, in order to expidite the building of the goverment airport. Citizens present were Jno. M. Sharpe, Felix B. Melburn, Sen Neuman, A. G. Braun, Jim Shaw, Dr. John Yartin, Mr. Peck, Rqt. Cooper, A. T. Sillure, and Ed Harris. 1 0 Considerable disuussiun wab liven the .atter, but on account ' of certain legal phases being brought to the attention of those present it was the general opinion that bond issue was the proper form of supplying the finances for the purchase of the site. Atderman J. C. Godbey made a motion, which x7as seconded by Alderman J. R. Chastain, that the City authorize County Burveyor to proceed at once "to do the prliminary surveying of the site as selected for the Airport. The motion carried. The following resolution was presente4by J. C. Godbey: A Resoluti6n of the City Coun6il of Georgetown, Texas, authorizing the Mayor to execute Contract of Purchase, with J. '. Rausenfluok, wife, and childrenf of lands for airport. Be it resolved by the City douncil of the City of Georgetown, Texas: ,r r That Irffayor M. F. Smith is hereby authorized and directed G` . to execute contract for the purchase of app for xapp�mately a o acres of land lying and being situated about three miles north from the City of Georgetown at a price of $40.00 per acre for each acre purchased for Airport. That such contract shall be conditioned that the City shall not be bound or obligated to take and pay for such property unless the City shall by proper eliection be authorized to issuo bonds to pay therefor and that the said—City be able to issue,- aif&r sell such bonds. That as to alb j�f =the lotker temm ahcf conditions of the said Contract, the Mayor shall have full di$cr.et-ion, and that "afij 'C6ntract entered into by virtue of th-ti- risolutio .shall be the Contract of and shall be binding upon this City. Passed and approved this, the 22bd day of August A. D. 1941. The motion was seconded by -J, R.
