The City Council met in regular session-latn the City Hall on the �1
above date, Mayor M. F. Smith presiding, the following offiers
and aldermen were present: Aldermen T. E. Buchholz,J. R. Chastain,
C. C. Hamilton and S. E. '!rilcox. Officers 77. II. Nunn, city attor-
ney, Albert May, marshal; IT. L. Cates secretary and R. E. Ward
manager utilities.
Tiinutes of the previous meeting :=sere read and on motion of Ald.
Chastain, seconded by Ald. C. C. Hamilton were approved.
Chairman of the auditingCommiteee was present and presented the
report of the committee, expressing compliments of the condition
of the city's finances and the administration of the the various
departments thereof. On motion of Alderman Chastain the report
was received and filed.
On motion of Ald. C. C. Hamilton, seconded by Ald. .9. R. Chas-
tain the council voted in favor of the purchase of a button -hole
attachment for the sewing room.
Dr. Walter S. Martin reported the health of the community good,.
and that during the past year there was only one Quarintine
case it the city. H e was requested by the Council to work
out details for the rigid enforcement of the sanitary ordinances
of the city, and State Laws governing the same.
Aldermen J. R. Chastain and S. E. Silcox were named as a committee
to canvass the returns of the election held April 29 1940. There
repart is as follows;
"we. your Committee have canvassed the returns of the election
held April 2, 1940 and find the following to be the results of said
election:
For Mayor: M. F. Smith, 80 votes, Arthur Gray 2 votes�'C. C.
Hamilton I vote, J. W. Robinson 17 votes:
For Alderman: F. E. BUchholz, 90 votes, J. C. Godbey 58 votes,
W. P. Hoffman,:Jr. 37 votes, Henry Creitzberg L Vote, S. A. Crone,
1 vote, Joe Munson, 1 vote! A. W. Gray 11 votes, Sam Harris 1 vote.
Respectfully submitted: J. R. Chastain, S. E. Wilcox, committee."

Aldermen to be elected, M. F. Smith receiving the zz;taic largest number
of votes for Mayor, and -7.'E. Buchholz and J. C. Godbey, receiving

Committeeman J. C. Godbey offered the following resolution

Mereas,-with the ad*ioe-and-appireval offthe members o` the City
Council of Georgetown, Texas, the Mayor of the said City, executed a
lease contract to Schwertner Bros., Leasing to the for the period'of
five years, with the pption for renewal of another five,.about five
acres of land out of the N.W. Cor, of the fiwld'farm of'the San Gabriel
Park Tract, the said base contract bearing date March 18th A. D.'1940;'
and whereas all the terms and conditions of the said contract, having bz
been fully considered by us at this meeting,*therefore; Be it resolved
by the City Council of the City of georgetown, Texas; That we do hereby
approve, ratify and confirm said lease according to the terms and con-
ditions set out in the contract, Passed and approved this the ath dag
of April, A. D. 1940. " Alderman Godbey moved that'the the said fore-
going resolution be adopted, the motion was seconded by Alserman
F. E. Buchholz9and was adopted by a unanimoua'vote of the council.
On motion of Alderman C.C. Hamilton, seconded by Alderman
F. E. Buchholz, Max Sansom -was -reappointed for another year $® City
Fireman at the salary of $90/0§er month.
There appearing no further business the Council Adjourned.
