HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN 07.20.1939 CC-S60 W E--7 Georgetown, Texas July 20th, 1939 The City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas, met in called session on July 20th, I9399 for the supplying of funds toward the the construction of a gymnasium at Southwestern University, resulting in the following motion made by Alderman S. E. Wilcox, and seconded by Alderman J. R. Chastain, the following additional members of the Council being present; F, E. Buchholz Ald.; J. C. Godbey, Ald.; C, C. Hamilton, Ald,; and M, L, Cates Secretary; W. H. Nunn, city attorneys The motion; " ThafMayor M. F. Smith be authorized to write Dr, John W. Bergin, President of Southwestern University, pledging the gift of $49000,00 towards the erection of a $400000,00 gymnasium,the following being the substance of said letter; "At a Called meeting of the City Council today,'I was'instruoted to advise you that the'City of Georgetown will give X49000.00 towards the erection of a $40,000.00 Gymnasium, this money to be turned over to youas soon as construction of the gymnasium has been started, "We trust this will enable you to go ahead with the building of this gymnasium so much needed by Southwestern University. "Yours very truly, Attested by VaeL. Cates "M. F. Smith, Mayor." Secretary. The above motion was carried unanimously.
