HomeMy WebLinkAboutRecreation Specialist SeniorPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Recreation Specialist, Senior FLSA Category: Non-exempt Pay Grade: 20 Effective Date: 10/01/2012 Revision Date: 8/23/2017 SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs responsible professional work in organizing, developing and supervising programming at the recreation center. Supervises assigned staff and assist in the overall operations of the recreation center. Develops and implements specialized recreation programs in and outside of the recreation center. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:  Recommends for hire, supervises, trains, and develops staff; supervises volunteers.  Serves as Team Leader for the Recreation Assistants and Recreation Specialists.  Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates comprehensive recreation programs for assigned center.  Develops, implements and markets recreation programs and classes for all age groups and interests.  Prepares and maintains attendance records on a daily, weekly and monthly basis for classes, meetings and drop in facility use.  Implements policies and procedures for use of Recreation Center; enforces recreation center rules and policies.  Conducts program registration; enters data into the computer.  Contacts local businesses, individuals and community organizations for program support and participation.  Assists in operating recreation center by providing input into facility needs and budget requests.  Opens and closes the facility during weekdays and occasionally on weekends.  Inspects on all areas in Recreation Center to ensure safety of all guests; performs routine maintenance  Promotes the recreation center through newspaper releases, social media, cable T.V., user guides, leisure brochures, flyers, and educational and informative talks/presentations; assists with calendar publication.  Responds to inquiries and /or complaints from citizens and contract instructors; assists in investigating and resolving complaints.  Serves as a planner, developer, and facilitator of Recreation programs and trips to be determined by skills of recreation specialist and needs of the program.  Arranges for and schedules facilities, and appropriate activity supervision for programs in and outside of recreation center.  Assists in the development of and hosting of special events within the department.  Performs other duties as assigned or required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, physical education, leisure services, or related field. Three years of experience in the development and implementation of recreation /leisure programs and/or fitness education and training programs OR any combination of experience, education or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of:  City policies, rules and regulations governing public events and community programs.  Purpose, use and benefits of municipal recreational activities.  Basic rules and regulations for amateur athletics, games and competitions, including Texas Amateur Athletic Federation TAAF) standards and United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA). Page 2 of 2  Occupational hazards and safety precautions  Local community resources and regional community services programs.  Recreational programs and activities.  Federal, State and local laws and ordinances.  Fiscal planning and budget preparation.  Supervisory and managerial techniques and methods.  Safety practices and procedures Skill in:  Supervising recreation activities and participants.  Providing effective customer service, and dealing tactfully and courteously with the public.  Promoting and enforcing safe work place practices.  Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationship with co-workers and the general public.  Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software.  Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.  Interpreting policies and procedures.  Data analysis and problem solving.  Handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.  Planning, marketing and promoting programs.  Working with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Class C Texas driver’s license or must obtain within 30 days of hire date. CPR, First Aid, AED certification or must obtain within six months of hire date PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls.
