OF THEIR TERMS OF OFFICB.
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of
Georgetown thats
Section 1. The municipal government of the City of George-
town, Texas, shall consist of the City Council, composed of a
Mayor and five aldermen, a majority of whom shall constitute a
quorum for the transaction of business, except at called meet-
ings or meetings for the imposition of taxes, when two-thirds
of a full board shall be required. The other officers of the
corporation shall be a Treasurer, an Assessor and Collector,
a Secretary, a City Attorney, and a Marshal, and such Marshal
shall also be ex -officio Street Commissioner, and such other
officers and agents as the City Gouneil may from time to time
direct. The above named officers shall be elected by the
qualified electors of the City, as hereinafter provided for,
and shall hold their offices for two years and until the elec-
tion and qualification of their successors.
Section 2. An election shall be held in this City on the
first Tuesday in April next after the passage of this ordinance,
to -wit; On the first Tuesday in April, 1907# and annually there-
after at such place in such City as the City Council may directp
and of which thirty days notice shall be given by publication
in some newspaper published in this City, such notice to be
signed by the Mayor and attested by the Secretary. Said election
shall be ordered by the City Council, but -in case of their
failure to order +same, then the Mayor may make such order.
Such order and notice shall specify the officers to be elected
at each election. The officers to hold said election shall be
appointed and said election shall be held in accordance with
the general law of this State governing municipal elections.
Such notice shall also give the name of the presiding officers
of said election and shall specify the place where the same
is to be held. The officers holding such election shall re-
ceive the same compensation as is or may be provided by the
general election lays of this State.

Section 3. At t76e election to be held on the first Tuesday
in April, 1907, and each two years thereafter, there shall be
elected three aldermen, a treasurer, and assessor and collector,
a secretary, a city attorney and a city marshal, all of whom
shall serve a term of two years and until their successors are
elected and qualified. At the election to be held on the first
Tuesday in April, 1908, and each two years thereafter, there
shall be elected a Mayor and two aldermen, who shall hold their
office for a term of two years and until their successors are
elected and qualified.
Section 4. livery person who has resided in this State
12 months and in this City six months, and who is entitled to
vote under the general laws of the State of Texas in force at
the time of such election shall be entitled to vote therein.
Section 5. The newly elected officers may enter upon
their duties five days after their election, Sundays excepted;
and that any officer may qualify at any time withing thirty
days after his election, oth6twise the office shall be deemed
vacant and a new election shall be held to fill the same*
Section 6. No person shall be eligible to the office of
Mayor or alderman unless he possesses the qualifications of
an elector, and shall have resided twelve months next preceding
the election within the limits of the City.
Section 7. Whenever it so happens in any election that
there is a tie between two or more candidates for the same office,
all of whom cannot be elected, the City Council shall declare
such election void as between such candidates only, and immed-
iately order a new election for the offioe, first giving not
less than five days notice thereof. In the event of the failure
to meet on the part of the City Council to examine the election
returns and declare the result, the Mayor shall discharge that
duty.
Section 8. In case of a vacancy in the office of Mayor
or alderman, by refusal to accept or failure to qualify, or by
death, resignation, or otherwise, the City Council shall order
a new election to fill such vaoaney, and all special elections
shall be conducted as is herein provided for the annual election;

provided that in all special elections ten days notice shall
be deemed sufficient. In case of a vacancy in e.ny other office
in the City than Mayor or alderman, by refusal to accept or
failure to qualify, or by death, resignation, or otherwise,
the Mayor# or acting MW or, shall fill such vacancy by appoint-
ment to be confirmed by the City Council,
Section 9. -The City Council shall be composed of the
Mayor and aldermen provided for by this ordinance. The Mayor
shall be president.of the Council, and in case of a tie on
any question he shall cast the deciding vote. At the first
meeting of each new Council, or as soon thereafter as pract-
icable, one of the aldermen shall be elected Mayor Pro Tempore,
who shall hold such office for one year and until his successor
is elected. In case of the failure, inability, or refusal of
the Mayor to act, the mayor Pro Tempore shall perform the
duties and receive the fees and compensation of the Mayor.
Section 10. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in
conflict herewith are hereby repealed; it being expressly
provided that all of the officers of this City now in office
shall hold and fill their respective offices until their
successors are duly elected and qualified under the provisions
of this ordinance.
