HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 02.12.1906 - TaxesAN ORDIKANCE, LEVYING A TAX FOR THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TFXA.S, FOR THE YEAR 1906. --:o: -_ BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas: - That to meet the current expenses of the city of Georgetown, Texas, and to carry on the City government of said City for the year 19061, there is here now levied and shall be collected an annual ad valorem tax of .25 cents on the $100 assessed valuation of all real and personal estate and property in the city of Georgetown, Texas, for the year 1906, not exempt, from taxation by the constitution and laws of the State of Texas. --:00-- STREET -:o:-- STREET FUND. That to grade, work and improve the streets of the City of Georgetown, Texas, for the year 1906, there is here now levied and shall be collected an annual ad valorem tax of .12 cents on the $100 assessed valuation of all real and personal estate and property in the city of Georgetown, Texas, for the year 1906, not exempt from taxation by the laws and constitution of the State of Texas. __:o: _. SCHOOL HOUSE REFUKDIEG BONDS. That to pay the interest and create a sinking fund on the $14,00.00 in bonds as evidenced by the 14 -- $1000 unpaid bonds issued for the pur- pose of refunding 14--$1000.00 unpaid School house bonds, lot series issued for the purpose of purchasing a building site and for the construction of the public free school buildings in the city of Georgetown, Texas, as shown by an ordinance passed and approved the 13th day of July, 18949 and of re- cord on pages 153, 154 and 155 of the old ordinance record of the city of Georgetown -- said refunding ordinance being recorded on 'pages 546, 547, b4P, b49 and, 550 of the minutes of the Council and was passed and approved on the 13th day of November, 1905,-- and as provided in said ordinance, there is here now levied and shall be collected for the year 1906, an annual ad val- orem tax of .04 cents on the assessed $100 valuation for the year 1906, of all real and personal estate and property in the city of Georgetown, Texas, not exempt from taxation by the constitution and laws of the state of Texas. And said fund as here set aside shall be used for no other purpose than as herein specified. --:G,: -- SCHOOL BONDS 2nd SERIES. That to pay the interest and create a sinking fund to meet the $3000 in bonds as evidenced by this said city's 3 -- $1000 unpaid bonds; issued for the purpose of constructing an addition to the public free school building of this said city -- as shown by an ordinance of this city pass- ed and approved the 11th day of February 1895, and recorded in the old ordinance book of the city of Georgetown on pages 186, 166 and 167, and as provided in said ordinance, there is here now levied and shall be collect- ed for the year 1906, an annual ad valorem tax of .02 cents on the $;100 assessed valuation for the year, 1906, of all real and personal estate Sy and property in the city of Georgetovm, Texas, not exempt from taxation under the constitution and lays of the State of Texas, and said fund as herein set aside shall be used for, no other purpose than as herein speci- fi ed. That to pay the interest and create a sinking fund on the $2000 in bonds as evidenced by this city's 4 -- $500 unpaid bonds as shown by an ordinance of the City of Georgetown, Texas, passed and approved Jan. 22nd, 1€394, and recorded in the minutes of said city's council, and as provided in said ordinance there is here now levied and shall be collected an annual ad valorem tax of .12 cents on the $100 assessed valuation for the year 1906, of all real and personal estate and property in the city of George- town, Texas, not exempt from taxation by the constitution and laws of the State of Texas, and said fund as herein set aside shall be used for no other purpose than as herein specified. SPECIAL SCHOOL. That for the support and maintenance of the Public Free Schools in the city of Georgetown, Texas, for the year 1906, and as deterrAned 8e-� cording to law by an election heretofore held in said city for said pur- pose there is here now Levied and shall be collected for the year, 1906, an annual ad valorem tax of . E5 cents on the $1O0 assessed valuation for 1.906, of all real and personal estate and property in the city of George- town, Texas, not exempt from taxation by the constitution and laws of the State of Texas, and said special fund as herein set aside shall be used for no other purp=ose than as herein specified. --:o : -- There shall be levied no poll tax for the year, 1908, by this city, and all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed. Keahey, Secretary. la�n 1190 5 55 s ON ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR AN ELECTION TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT THE SPECIAL SCHOOL TAX NOW LEVIED AND COLLECTED IN THE CITY OF GEORGE- TOWN, TEXAS, FOR THE SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE OF THE PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS IN Y SAID CITY, SHALL BE INCREASED FROM TWENTY-FIVE TO FORTY CENTS ON THE ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS VALUATIOW OF THE PROPERTY SUBJECT TO TAXATION IN SAID CITY. Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas: - That it is hereby ordered that an election be held in said City on the 12th day of March, 19060 to determine Whether or not the special school tax now levied and collected in the City of Georgetown.. Texas, for the support and maintenance of the public free schools in said City, shall be increased from twenty-five to forty cents on the one hundred dollars valuation of the property subject to taxation in said City; that said election be held at the County Court House in said City; that said election shall be held under the provisions of Chapter 124 of the General Laws of the State of Texas passed by the Twenty Ninth Legislature at its regular session; that only qualified property tax paying voters in the said City shall be entitled to vote in said elections that each voter favoring such increase of said school tax shall have written or printed on his ballot, "For increase of school tax," and those opposing such increase shall have written or printed on their ballots, "Against increase of school tax," and if two-thirds of the votes Gast be in favor of increasing said tax, it shall be increased; that said election shall be held in accordance with the provisions of the election laws of the State of Texas; and that Re D. Byrom and R. A. Montgomery be, and they are hereby. appointed judges of said election, and the said R. D. Byrom is hereby designated as presiding judge at said election. The Mayor of said City is hereby directed to give notice of said election by posting up at the door of the place adhere said 6+y of 6o #Yt4owu Ai& election is hereinbefore designated to be held fo3t at least twenty days before the day of said election, a copy of this ordinance signed by himself and attested by the City Secretary, and by causing the same to be published once a week for three creeks successively next before the day of said election in some newspaper published in the said City of Georgetown, Texas.
