REGULATING THE PLACB AN LOCALITY OF THE BURIAL OF THE DEAD
IN THE CITY OF GRORGBTOWN, TEXAS.
BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of tae City of
Georgetown, Texass
That within and for the .city of Geoxgezown, Texas there
shall be, three and only three places set apart and used for
the burial and interment of the dear in which a person in whose
body life shall have become extinct, shall be interred and buried,
according to whatever manner, and what religious rites as shall
seem best, according to the religious beliefs or tenants of the
person or persons having in charge the funeral services or obse.

The three places so designated and herein set apart, shall
be:
First;the old graveyard or burying ground, as now known as
such, and located in the Northwestern portion of the city near
the South San Gabriel river, as the same is now known by metes
and bounds and enclosures at this date, to -wits November, 1904,
and designated on said city's map as Out lot No.l, Division D.
Seconds the I.0.0.F. graveyard burying ground or eemetaryo
located in the Eastern portion,of the city, East of'the M.K.& T,
passenger depot, and directly Bast of the Anderson addition to
said city as shown by the said city's map, together with its metes*
bounds, enclosures and area, as the same is and exists at the
present date, to -wit; November, 1904; the said 1.0.0.7.eemetary
having been recently enlarged and advanced one block West into
the said Anderson addition to said city; and the
Third place so designated to known as the Southern Pres-
byterian Church Cametary, graveyard or burying ground, located
in the Southern portion of the city. Bast of the Georgetown
and Round Rock public road# with its metes and bounds, enclo-
sures and areas as it now exists at the present time, to -wits
November, 1904, and as designated on said city's map as Out lot
No. 39 Division B.
It shall be unlawful for any person, persons, firm or
corporation, or undertaker, having is charge the cadaver o:f
dead body of any person, to keep the same above ground or un-
buried or undisposed of for a longer period than 48 hoursp

within the said city's limits# provided said body or cadaver
is unembalmed; but if the said person so in charge of said ca-
daver or dead body of such person, intends to bury the same
within the city limits of the city of Georgetown, it shall be-
come his duty before the expiration of the time provided herein
for the burial of the dead, to bury said dead body in a decent
manner and at the customary depth, in so far as it is practic-
able, within the metes and bounds of one of the places and loc-
alities herein mentioned and designated, as not apart for the
burial and interment of the dead, and in no other place under
penalty of this ordinance, unless having first obtained the per-
mission of this said City's council.
If such dead body or cadaver be that of a negro or person
of African descent, it shall be buried in the burying ground
known as the Old Burying ground, located as designated above#
and marked on said City's map as Out Lot Bo. 19 Division D, in
the Western portion of said burying place, and *est of a path
aisle or walk, or imaginary line running through the central
portion of said burying place, in a direction from Borth to
South and dividing said burying ground into Bastern and Western
parts, the said Western part to be designated and used as herein
not apart for the burial of negroes, or persons of African de-
scent, or of any other person whose body shall have been refused
burial in the other two places herein designated. A refusal to
comply with this provision of this ordinance shall be punished
by fine, as provided hereinafter.
It shall be unlawful for any person, or parsons, firs or
corporation, who shall now, or hereafter own, manage of control,
any cemetary, graveyard or burying ground within the corporate
limits of this city, and who might -wish to enlarge the boundaries
and area of such graveyard, cemetary or burying ground, to-do so
without first having asked and obtained the consent of the City
Council of this city, who may either deny the request or grant
the same, within their discretion, and if the same be granted,
the aforesaid persons, firm or corporation shall be governed by
the designations of the.said City's Council. A refusal to be
governed by this provision of this ordinance shall be punished
as hereinafter provided.
And further, such persons, firm or corporation having in
charge or control the said graveyard or burying glace, shall
within their discretion, sell or rent lots or plots within their
enclosures, for the purpose of burying or interring the dead at
a reasonable amount and price for the same, which said amount
and price shall be uniform, and of the same amount to one and

within their discretions sell or rent lots or plots within their
enclosures# for the purpose of burying or interring the dead at

or plots within their enclosures.
Any individaul deviating from the regular scale of prices
in favor of or against any person or persons by any of the persons*
form or corporations mentioned hereinabove• shall be unlawful and
punished as hereinafter provided.
Any person or persons, firm or corporations, either in the
singular or plural number# who shall hereafter violate any of the
provisisons of this ordinance, as herein set forth in any manner
what soevery shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon con-
viction thereof, shall be fined in any sum not to exceed $;
and each separate day such violation of these provisions beeeowed
to remain, shall constitute and be a separate offeneep punishable
under this ordinance as such; providedg however# there shall be
nothing in this ordinance that shall be oonstrued to prevent any
person, firm or corporation from donating or giving away such lots
or plots to be used for the burial of the dead, as they may see fit.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewithp
be* and the same are hereby repealed.
This ordinance to take effect from and after its passage.
