HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 10.11.1983 - Emergency Discretionary FundA RESOLUTION PETITIONING THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS FOR FUNDING UNDER THE EMERGENCY/DISCRETIONARY FUND OF THE TEXAS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM WHEREAS, The Texas Department of Health has determined that the City of Georgetown water supply was contaminated in August, 1983; and WHEREAS, The Texas Department of Health has determined that a probable source of the contamination of the Edwards Aquifer is from three specific sanitary sewer mains which cross the Balcones Fault; and WHEREAS, due to the delicate nature of the Edwards Aquifer, normal maintenance of these sewer lines will not protect the Georgetown water supply; and WHEREAS, The City of Georgetown, with the concurrence of the Texas Department of Health, feels an imminent threat to the health and safety of the citizens of Georgetown exists; and WHEREAS, this emergency situation requires immediate action beyond the scope currently available to the City of Georgetown to protect the Edwards Aquifer and the Georgetown water supply; Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Georgetown that the Texas Department of Community Affairs is hereby petitioned for a grant of up to $250,000.00 from the Emergency/Discretionary Fund of the Texas Community Development Program for the immediate inspection, repair and/or replacement of three sewer lines crossing the Balcones Fault, and authorizing the Mayor to submit the petition and execute the program when approved.
