HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN 05.18.2016 CC-SMinutes of a Special Meeting of the Governing Body of the City of Georgetown, Texas Wednesday, May 18, 2016 The Georgetown City Council will meet on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 6:00 PM at the Council Chambers at 101 E. 7d' St., Georgetown, Texas The city of Georgetown is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Regular Session (This Regular session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose authorized by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551.) Mayor Ross called the meeting to order at 6:05 PM. All Councilmembers were in attendance with the exception of Anna Eby, District 1, Steve Fought, District 4 and Rachael Jonrowe, District 6. A. Call to Order — A Special Meeting of the City Council - CANVASS of May 7, 2016 GENERAL ELECTION AND SWEARING IN CEREMONY B. Discussion and possible action to approve a Resolution canvassing the votes of the May 7, 2016 General Election, declaring the results to be official — Shelley Nowling, City Secretary Shelley Nowling, the City Secretary, announced that the Mayor and Councilmembers had been provided copies of the final tabulation of the results of the General Election held May 7, 2016 from the Williamson County Elections office. She read the results of the District 3 Councilmember election. John Hesser received 821 votes and Dwaine Boydstun received 497 votes. Nowling said that Council approval of the proposed Resolution would declare the results to be true and accurate. Motion by Gonzalez, second by Brainard to approve the Canvass Resolution Approved: 4-0 (Eby, Fought, Jonrowe absent) C. Swearing in of Council Member District 3, John Hesser— Shelley Nowling, City Secretary Nowling introduced the honorable Judge Rick Kennon, who provided the Oath of Office swearing-in for re-elected Councilmember, District 3, John Hesser. D. Comments from District 3 Council Member, John Hesser— Mayor Dale Ross Hesser said that he had learned a lot during his reelection campaign. He called it a humbling experience. Hesser thanked all that helped his campaign and those who voted for him. He thanked all for both encouragement and financial help. E. Comments from Unopposed District 4 Council Member, Steve Fought — Mayor Dale Ross Mayor Ross explained that Councilmember Fought had been sworn in at the last Council Meeting because of a medical procedure that did not permit him to attend this meeting. F. Swearing in of Unopposed Council Member District 7, Tommy Gonzalez — Shelley Nowling, City Secretary Nowling introduced Joshua Gonzalez who read the Oath of Office to his father, Councilmember District 7, Tommy Gonzalez. G. Comments from District 7 Council Member, Tommy Gonzalez — Mayor Dale Ross Councilmember Gonzalez thanked the people of District 7 for giving him the opportunity to continue to serve as their City Council representative. He said that it is a learning experience and very rewarding. Gonzalez said that he feels that he receives much more than he gives as a Councilmember and is very proud and humble to serve again. H. Presentation of appreciation to outgoing Mayor Pro Tem, Keith Brainard — Mayor Dale Ross Mayor Ross spoke on outgoing Mayor Pro Tem, Keith Brainard, and presented him with an appreciation plaque. I. Comments from outgoing Mayor Pro Tem, Keith Brainard — Mayor Dale Ross Councilmember Brainard thanked everyone. He said that is has been a pleasure serving with a very capable Mayor and Council and he appreciated the service of the Councilmembers and the Mayor. Brainard said that he appreciated the opportunity. J. Consideration of election from the dais of a Mayor Pro Tem — Mayor Dale Ross Hesser made a motion to elect Councilmember Steve Fought as the next Mayor Pro Tem. Second by Gonzalez. Approved: 4-0 (Eby, Fought, Jonrowe absent) K. Swearing in of Mayor Pro Tem — Shelley Nowling, City Secretary Councilmember Fought was unable to attend this meeting and will be sworn in by the City Secretary, Shelley Nowling, this week at City Hall. L. Comments from incoming Mayor Pro Tem — Mayor Dale Ross Steve Fought is not able to attend the meeting. Adjournment Motion to adjourn by Brainard, second by Hesser. Meeting adjourned at 6:15 PM.
