HomeMy WebLinkAboutChallenge Course CoordinatorPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Challenge Course Coordinator Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Exempt Revision Date: 05/13/2016 SUMMARY: Schedules, plans, promotes, and facilitates quality team-building programs for groups and organizations. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Markets and promotes the challenge course to outside groups including non-profit, religious, small business, corporate, schools, and other youth and adult agencies, etc. Serves as a lead facilitator on challenge course and supervises other facilitators to plan and implement group programs and elements. Conducts set-up and break down of high element activities. Coordinates the scheduling of course for all uses: outside groups, camps, recreation programs, community programs, and City departments. Prepares groups for their experience through pre-course date information, needs assessments, liability forms and medical information. Coordinates the training and work of challenge course facilitators, reviews and updates their levels and pay status and ensures contract facilitators are paid. Maintains and demonstrates knowledge of current/up to date industry standards of hard skills, soft skills and technical skills related to challenge course programming and facilitation. Works closely with the camp director, Youth Program Coordinator and the Adventure Program Coordinator to schedule and oversee the use of the course for these programs. Oversees the use and safety of all equipment related to the course, updates rope logs, ensure that monthly course inspections are done. Manages maintenance of the challenge course facility to ensure the general safety of the course is in compliance with current standards; oversees the safety of all challenge course activities. Assists with developing program budget, including assessing challenge course needs as it related to facility and programming equipment. Manages all emergency procedures on the challenge course including enacting the EAP, performing first aid, and executing high element rescues if needed. Participates in and assist with departmental special events and projects and other duties as assigned relating to other recreation programs and recreation centers. Performs such other professional and administrative duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Therapeutic Recreation, Outdoor Recreation, or related field. Three years of full-time work experience in outdoor recreation or experiential education. Experience working with multiple populations including youth and youth with special needs (at-risk). OR Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of: (In-depth) Recreation and challenge course programming design, administration, and evaluation. (In-depth) Experiential education, facilitation and processing techniques. Personnel policies Supervisory and leadership principles and practices. Page 2 of 2 Medical first-aid procedures. Recreation risk management principles and practices. Skill in: Utilizing technical challenge course equipment. Performing outdoor adventure skills (rock climbing, backpacking, etc.) Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Supervising and training individuals. Working well with adults and children. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Reading general and technical information. Writing letters, memos, reports, instructions, and promotional material. Performing basic mathematical calculations; budget management skills. Analyzing statistical data; interpreting policies, procedures, and City ordinances. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Class C Texas driver's license or available alternate means of transportation Challenge Course Certification - Level II, Trainer, or CCM Community First Aid and CPR, AED PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls.
