Job Title: Energy Auditor/Coordinator

SUMMARY: Manages the Energy Efficiency, solar generation, and other renewable energy programs sponsored by the
City. Conducts energy audits of buildings, building systems or process systems in order to make recommendations for
energy cost savings.

subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to,
the following:
Inspects and evaluates home and building envelopes, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and process
systems to determine the energy efficiency of each system for Conservation Services program participants.
Collects and analyzes data related to energy usage at audited homes and buildings; compares the existing
energy consumption levels to normative data; calculates potential for energy savings.
Prepares audit reports containing energy analysis results or recommendations for energy costs savings.
Coordinates and performs daily activities for Energy Efficiency and Weatherization Programs, Solar Generation
and other Renewable Energy programs, including the review of applications and documentation, work schedules
and rebate qualifications (local, state and federal).
Interacts with the public through classes, presentations and public events to promote understanding of energy
efficiency issues and supports energy efficiency education; answers questions on topics such as the costs of
running household appliances or the selection of energy efficient appliances; recommends energy efficient
technologies or alternate energy sources.
Inspects newly installed energy-efficient equipment, identified as necessary in program audit and installed through
a City weatherization or rebate program, to ensure that it was installed properly and is performing according to
specifications.
Monitors federal and state legislation and policies related to renewable energy and energy efficiency in order to
maintain statute compliance; recommends necessary changes to energy efficiency initiatives and programs.
Prepares audit reports containing energy analysis results or recommendations for energy cost savings.
Ensures compliance with municipal, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, training and Experience Guidelines
Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in construction science, engineering,
energy efficiency, environmental engineering or related field. Five years of full-time experience in construction, energy
efficiency, energy auditing. OR Two year technical certification in building trades, engineering, energy efficiency, energy
auditing or closed related field. Five years of full-time related experience. OR Any combination of experience, education
and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge of:
Building and Construction —materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses,
buildings, or other structures. (Building envelope)
Mechanical — machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance (HVAC, Water Heater,
Heat Pump – to be audited) (Blower Door, Duct Blaster, Thermal Imaging – to conduct the audits.)
Project Management – principles, techniques and practices.
Local, state and federal laws and regulations applicable to programs.

Skill in:
Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
Developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Providing excellent customer service including dealing tactfully with the public, listening to address issues and
concerns and to provide solutions.
Identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or
approaches to problems.
Performing mathematical calculation related to audit findings and recommendations.
Operating a computer and utilizing various software programs for preparing correspondence and spreadsheets for
analytics and reporting.
Using the following equipment: blower door, air velocity and temperature monitors, thermal Imaging camera,
digital multi-meters, combustion analyzer (duct blaster) / flue gas monitor
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Class C Texas driver’s license
RESNET – Residential Energy Service Network / Certification training
BPI – Building Performance Institute certification as Building Analysis
NABCEP – North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (for Solar Installations)
OR must obtain the required certifications within one year of date of hire.
