HomeMy WebLinkAboutVictim's Services CoordinatorPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Victim’s Services Coordinator Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Non-Exempt Revision Date: 04/07/2014 SUMMARY: Plans and organizes all aspects of the Victims Services Program including but not limited to intra-office coordination, service delivery, filing of victim’s assistance claims, and scheduling of volunteers. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:  Coordinates work activities with other program units in the department and with other Victim Services Agencies, the District Attorney, and the County Attorney to ensure smooth and timely service delivery.  Assists in training police personnel in the area of crisis intervention, Post Traumatic Stress, program procedures, community resources and other relevant issues.  Provides crisis intervention and/or crisis counseling to victims of violent crimes in person or by telephone, including case notes, documentation, data entry, and assists victims with paperwork on the scene and in the office.  Provides information regarding Crime Victims Compensation and the criminal justice process to the witnesses and victims of crimes.  Responds to inquiries from victims through mail, telephone or direct contact.  Compiles and submits appropriate narrative and statistical reports to State and Federal agencies as required.  Interviews certain victims/witnesses and family members of victims on police request.  Composes correspondence to victims, other agencies and professionals.  Compiles Statistics.  Maintains lists of community resources.  Educates the public and other community groups and agencies on the subject of victimization and the Victim Services Programs.  Develops and updates program procedures and policies.  Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training and Experience Guidelines Bachelor’s Degree for an accredited college or university with major coursework in Social Work, Counseling, Behavioral Science or related field. Three years of full-time work experience with a law enforcement Victim Services program, social service agency or related field. One additional year of the required experience may be substituted on each year (30 semester hours) of the required education with a maximum substitution of 4 years. Knowledge of:  Criminal justice system and community social services and resources.  Crisis counseling practices, procedures, methods and techniques related to the identification, interviewing, crisis intervention and support of victims and/or witnesses of domestic violence or criminal activities.  Federal, State, regional and local social services agencies and non-profit organizations, including application/qualifications and types/scope of services provided.  Assessment, evaluation and analysis of individual needs.  Planning, developing and implementing community services programs  City policies, procedures and organizational structure.  State laws pertaining to victims of violent crime, including their rights and law enforcement responsibilities to victims. Page 2 of 2  The ability to coordinate the functions of the program with other programs and unit functions within the department and outside networking.  And ability to apply rules and laws related to Victim Compensation. Skill in:  Organizing and prioritizing work.  Managing multiple programs and assignments.  Using of computers and related equipment, hardware and software.  Developing and presenting training to various sized groups on a wide range of topics/public speaking.  Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.  Preparing reports and correspondence.  Resolving problems quickly and effectively.  Public speaking skills, the ability to provide referral services to victim.  Planning and organizing service delivery for the program.  Recognizing and resolving certain conflicts within the management system.  And the ability to be sensitive to the needs of victims and their families, as well as police officers and the Criminal Justice System.  Working effectively with individuals of diverse cultures, backgrounds, etc.  Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.  Reading procedure manuals and general orders.  Compiling information and preparing detailed reports.  Performing general mathematical computations for report purposes.  Sorting and categorizing materials. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Class C Texas driver’s license PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. May be subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions, hostile environments, hazardous chemicals, fumes, air and water borne pathogens, and body fluids. May be subject to exposure to violent, combative and hostile individuals.
