HomeMy WebLinkAboutSafety and Training SpecialistPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Safety and Training Specialist Effective Date: 10/01/2015 FLSA Category: Non- Exempt SUMMARY: Performs administrative work planning, organizing, and assisting in development and evaluation of the safety and occupational health programs. Assist in administering and developing multiple divisions’ occupational training and qualifications programs. Assist in development of procedures and rules to implement in safety programs. Conducts safety training and education of staff, inspections of work areas and activities, and investigations of concerns and incidents. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:  Maintain and review a comprehensive safety and occupational health plan document.  Maintain and assist in education, training, safety awareness and publicity programs.  Review and maintain safety programs and procedures for GUS employees.  Assist in development, implementation, and maintenance of divisional occupational training and qualification programs.  Provide assistance conducting surveys, audits and inspections to ensure a safe environment and compliance with safety standards.  Compile safety and training program performance data.  Coordinate meetings with designated staff to review industry events and regulatory changes to ensure adequacy of safety and training programs and procedures, rules, and standards.  Investigate and/or direct accident investigations; develop and implement accident investigation, data analysis, and recurrence prevention programs and procedures.  Conduct, prepare, participate in and coordinate safety committee, council and seminar meetings.  Serves as a liaison from GUS with all city departments and external entities concerning safety matters.  Conducts surveys to determine the necessity and applicability of safety protective equipment and procedures.  Maintain a safety technical library.  Assist in the preparation and submission of information required by statute.  Conducts routine safety training and researches new topics for safety presentations.  Prepare correspondence, manuals, procedures and other written materials.  Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Associate’s Degree in a related field plus one year of related experience. Additional education or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications. Knowledge of:  Occupational safety and health program standards, rules and regulations.  OSHA and other safety and health regulatory agencies.  Federal, State, and Local laws and ordinances governing Occupational Safety.  Knowledge of safety policies and procedures, Skill in: Page 2 of 2  Planning, developing, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating safety and health programs.  Presenting presentations and training.  Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.  Reading and understanding technical manuals, business documents, policies and procedures, system documentation.  Writing clear, accurate, timely documentation.  Writing clear, concise memos in non-technical terminology to brief managers/ supervisors.  Writing clear training and qualification program documentation including procedures, manuals, etc.  Performing mathematical calculations and make projections and forecasts.  Exercising sound judgment in interpretations and decisions that have a moderate impact on City operations and costs.  Analyzing complex situations and responding appropriately.  Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, clients, citizens, and vendors. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Class C Texas driver’s license PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls.
