Job Title: Property and Evidence Control Technician Effective Date: 10/01/2012

SUMMARY: Controls physical evidence and property obtained during criminal investigations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of

subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to,
the following:
Stores and retrieves property and evidence collected, seized, or kept by the Police Department assuring a
continuous chain of custody and integrity of evidence.
Maintains all records related to property and evidence collected, seized, kept and disposed by the Police
Department.
Manages the delivery of evidence to and from court, laboratories, prosecutor’s offices and other locations.
Releases property/evidence to public, court, and other agencies.
Arranges and prepares abandoned or forfeited property and evidence for auction and disposal.
Maintains in-car digital video and acts as liaison for discovery and other related issues.
Provides technical support and training, dealing with evidence and property for all divisions within the Police
Department.
Acts as a liaison with other departments and agencies regarding the storage and retrieval of evidence and
property.
Prepares court orders and testifies in court; presents evidence items in court.
Enter and update computer records related to property and evidence.
Creates court orders for disposal of evidence; researches case dispositions in criminal case filings.
Write reports.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, training and Experience Guidelines
High school diploma or equivalent. Three years of full-time work experience performing clerical or inventory control. OR
Any combination of experience, training, and/or education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge of:
Criminal investigation procedures.
Police department rules and regulations.
The law and policies regarding the final disposition of evidence and property.
Storing and disposing of crime evidence and confiscated property including narcotics and weapons.
The legalities of auctions and disposal of confiscated property.
General office equipment and operational practices and procedures.
Inventory control practices and procedures.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Class C Texas driver’s license, or the must obtain within 30 days of employment.
