HomeMy WebLinkAboutWaterServicesSupervisorPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Water Services Supervisor Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Revision Date: 12/31/2013 SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Water Services Manager supervises the operation and maintenance of the City’s water distribution system, wastewater collection system reclaim irrigation system, water high service pump stations, and wastewater lift stations. Coordinates the efforts of employees and contractors to ensure the safe, regulatory compliance and efficient operations and maintained of the systems.. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:  Interviews, recommends hiring, monitors and evaluates the performance of subordinate personnel to include providing detailed feedback on performance.  Assists with midpoint budget by conducting and reviewing annual midpoint evaluations, forecasting staffing, materials and contractor service needs.  Maintains office records of work performed, including job assignments and work completion records.  Oversees the job and task assignment by the Water Services Lead.  Provides up-to-date operational metrics to Water Services staff.  Determines proper stock levels for parts and tools; coordinates purchases with the warehouse/purchasing.  Assists staff in the operations and maintenance of the water or wastewater system.  Coordinates work assignments with other department.  Monitors equipment and vehicles for proper operations, safety, and/or maintenance.  Represents the City in meetings with peers and external regulatory agencies.  Assists in the development and implementation of the department qualification and training plan to include scheduling internal and external training.  Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the annual and five year CIP.  Assists assigned staff in conducting root cause evaluation for system operations and maintenance concerns; makes recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.  Assists in developing and implementing safe and efficient operating practices, policies and procedures.  Ensures that safety inspections are conducted to ensure the proper and safe operation and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.  Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines High school diploma or its equivalent. Five years of full-time experience in operations and maintenance of water distribution or wastewater collection systems. One year of the required experience must have been in a supervisory capacity. OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of:  System operational theory.  Machinery, water, and sewer system operation and equipment; and state and federal regulations for maintenance and construction of water and sewer systems.  Current applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing water systems. Page 2 of 2 Skill in:  Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships;  Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing  Working in mechanically oriented situations.  Repairing equipment and machinery.  Using computer and related software applications.  Reading and utilizing operations and safety manuals; maps, and blueprints.  Calculating budget expenditures and making predictions; calculating area, volume and capacity.  Making judgments pertaining to repair needs, supply needs and finding safe effective solutions to problems. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Class C Texas driver’s license Class B Water Distribution and Collection III License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls.
