HomeMy WebLinkAboutWater Utility EngineerPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Water Utility Engineer Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Exempt Revision Date: 04/14/14 SUMMARY: Develops capital improvement programs to maintain water and wastewater utilities. Assists utility personnel with trouble shooting issues concerning water and wastewater utilities. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:  Reviews and approves proposed water, wastewater, street and drainage facilities for City and development projects in relation to engineering design standards, calculations and practices, City codes and specifications and in relation to current and long-range utility and planning master plans.  Maintains knowledge of industry improvements in infrastructure and leads upgrades to City standards and specifications.  Attends pre-application meetings to give direction to engineers and developers for prospective development projects in relation to infrastructure requirements.  Attends meetings to give direction concerning City water and wastewater projects or issues with the systems.  Calculates system capacity and service availability using engineering calculations and procedures, manuals, and models for water and waste water systems.  Establishes and maintains an asset management program for water and wastewater utilities; maintains assets in a manner to improve efficiency, power usage and longevity of assets.  Develops Capital Improvement Plans (CIP) each year for maintaining water and wastewater systems in relation to City growth patterns and utility capacity needs; continues to monitor and adjust CIP according to changing system requirements.  Leads revisions to improve City’s utility standards and specifications and incorporate good industry developments in infrastructure.  Participates in field inspections and give direction during construction of Development and City projects.  Supervises consultants, project coordinators and engineering technicians engaged in project delivery for capital improvement projects.  Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering or related field. Eight years of full-time experience in Public Utilities operations and/or development with experience in water system modeling. OR Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge of:  Civil engineering calculations and methods for storm water drainage, wastewater system design, water system and street system design.  Construction procedures and practices for drainage, water, wastewater and street infrastructure.  Windows, Windows NT, Auto CAD, Cybernet, Civil Engineering, Street, Drainage, Water & Wastewater design. Skill in:  Reading: Reading plans, specifications, regulations, plats and engineering reports. Page 2 of 2  Writing: Writing staff reports, review memos, letters, and city regulations.  Math: Comprehension of drainage calculations, water and wastewater analysis calculations, and cost estimates.  Reasoning: Civil engineering analysis of drainage, street design, water and wastewater systems.  Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.  Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Texas driver’s license Professional Engineers License (P.E.) in the State of Texas. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
