HomeMy WebLinkAboutSolid Waste Recycling CoordinatorPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Solid Waste/Recycling Coordinator Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Exempt Revision Date: 06/09/2014 SUMMARY: Serves as the liaison between the City’s contracted solid waste services provider and the City. Monitors the daily operations at the Collection Station to ensure compliance with contract provisions and provides oversight and analysis of customer programs to identify effectiveness and issues and follows through accordingly. Promotes conservation and the efficient use of our natural resources and provides information and public education related to solid waste, recycling and associated programs and services. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:  Collects and maintains performance metrics and participation rates for the evaluation of the environmental programs and services that are offered.  Monitors daily operations of solid waste and recycling operations to ensure contract compliance and operational efficiencies.  Verifies contractor compliance with operational procedures, as required by various regulatory agencies having jurisdiction.  Develops and prepares product, educational and service plans for programs related to waste recycling and household hazardous waste.  Responds to information requests from the public; provides technical advice and assistance to City Management, field personnel and contractors.  Represent GUS in target industries and trade organizations to increase customer or industry related job knowledge and promote positive business relationships.  Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business or environmental management or related field. Three years of full-time experience in a utility industry related area (i.e. rates, use analysis, conservation and marketing, quantitative analysis), contract management, solid waste management or environmental regulations. OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge of:  Utility industry terminology.  City ordinances/policies.  State and Federal regulations and requirements related to solid waste.  Environmental hazards and safety compliance standards.  Principles and practices of effective, efficient customer service. Page 2 of 2 Skill in:  Communicating effectively, orally and in writing.  Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.  Reading, interpreting, and explaining contracts, manuals, reports, memos, letters, and other correspondence.  Preparing and making presentations  Performing mathematical calculations related to costs, rates, etc.  Providing quality customer service under stressful conditions.  Analyzing data in order to make informed decisions.  Using computer and a variety of software.  Following oral and written instructions. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Class C Texas driver's license PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. Work may involve occasional moving and carrying of light equipment and/or materials. May be required to climb ladders at commercial or industrial facilities. On-site visits may require presence in industrial work areas, hazardous materials handling, and exposure to unknown domestic waste.
