SUMMARY: Performs the installation, removal, testing, calibration, repair and maintenance of electronic metering devices and
associated automated data collection endpoints. Reads utility meters and record power usage to facilitate the City’s billing
process.

subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to,
the following:
Installs, calibrates, troubleshoots and replaces Electric End Point’s, Water End Point’s, and AMR
Communications systems and associated infrastructure.
Installs, tests and maintains all Instrument Rated Revenue Metering.
Develops, tests and installs Water and Electric Meter Programming.
Investigate metering and remote terminal unit (rtu) irregularities.
Perform monthly battery test and maintenance on the AMR field network controllers and completes monthly
reports.
Uses hand held and laptop computers to develop and test programs for all End Point’s, AMR Transmitting and
Receiving devices and Electric Metering Equipment.
Operates testing equipment to locate the cause of defective performance, and initiate the repair process by either
in-house process’ or by vendors as required.
Coordinates with utility billing and GUS in the change out of damaged End Points so that accounts can be
remotely read.
Assists utility billing with customer issues and manual meter reading..
Participates in meetings, internal and external training, as well as tailgate conferences;
Provides input to the warehouse staff to ensure the maintaining of an adequate inventory of AMI and Electric
Metering material.
Provides technical input on Water and Electric Endpoints, Electric Meters, Transformer rated Metering Devices for
accurate revenue recording and Metering Software.
Communicate Ideas and troubleshoots and problem solves within division and other City divisions.
Programs and trouble shoots switching controls and power quality devices.
Trains less experienced technicians.
Performs other work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, training and Experience Guidelines
High School diploma or equivalent. Four years of full-time related industrial experience performing work consistent with
this classification. OR Any combination of experience, training, and or education that provides the required knowledge, skills, or
abilities.
Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university with course work in electrical or electronic technology disciplines may be
substituted for one year of the required experience with a maximum substitution of 2 years..
Certification from a vocational training program may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Knowledge of:
Medium distribution and services voltages (12.5; 24.9;480, 120/208VAC)electrical systems, water systems, logic
circuits, meter programming, computer systems and safety.
Utility metering and AMR systems as a process control.
Intelligent device Communications protocols, (Modbus, DNP, ICCP); Boolean logic, NESC or NEC standards.
Methods, procedures, tools and equipment in testing electrical and electronic metering devices.
Installation and maintenance of electric metering systems.
Computer operating systems and basic PC skills
Laws, theories, rules and standards pertaining to electrical metering
All relevant safety rules and regulations
Communications and software applications.
Industry meter specifications and standards.
Skill in:
Operating utility grade equipment safely.
Following NESC & NEC electrical safety standards procedures and water system safety procedures.
Reading electrical hazard warnings on NEMA equipment.
Comprehending tech manuals/metering specifications, power quality periodicals, electrical schematics, blue
prints, ACAD and illustrated construction prints.
Writing safety reports, processing work order, metering data spreadsheets, power calculations and lock-out/tag-
out documentation.
Performing electrical calculations pertaining to KWh Demand and metered energy consumption, process control
statistics, Power Metering analysis, and water usages.
Verifying equipment specifications and manufacturers operating ranges-limitations.
Scientifically measuring electric load as a function of variables: conductor type, size; length of overhead/buried
service, and customer energy demand.
Investigates and provides solutions in relation to technical apparatus type, instrument programming and
communications process security, electrical safety, and new &/or existing services problems related to metering.
Interpreting of technical drawings.
Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
Using of tools & various types of test equipment required to test and calibrate electric & electronic meters
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Class C Texas driver's license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision,
hearing, talking, use of foot controls.
Temperature extremes from weather and engines; loud noise from engine and blown fuses; creosote burns; live electric
lines; pressurized water lines; occasional dogs and insects; uneven terrains; exposure to poison oak, ivy and sumac.
