SUMMARY: Connects and disconnects utility meters. Reads meter readings, both automated and manual, for the utility
billing process. Provides excellent customer service by addressing customer issues and concerns in the field and always
observing appropriate confidentiality.

subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to,
the following:
Maintains the physical status of utility meters by performing the on-site connection and disconnection of utility
services.
Runs the outstanding work order report, organizing the requests in route sequence order to be completed in the
most efficient manner and closing the work orders through laptops in the field.
Inspects meters for leaks, hazards, theft of service or any irregularities, adding notes to the customers’ accounts
and delivering Newcomer packets.
Provides accurate meter readings, both automated and manual, including fire hydrant meters for the utility billing
process.
Imports and exports route readings collected with mobile collection unit and its interface software, researching
system for duplicate end points.
Physically verifies questionable readings or irregularities in consumption, interpreting this information to assess
the reliability of the meter and the reading software, and the accuracy of the readings.
Performs regular meter audits to monitor and verify the accuracy of meter and meter reading equipment in the
field, physically testing each meter utilizing computerized handheld units and reprogramming equipment to
synchronize the ERT reading with the meter reading.
Shares data and information gathered in the field with the AMI System Operators for the purpose of trouble
shooting issues with the “back office” AMI systems.
Performs utility meter rereads and maintenance; analyzes and interprets consumption data for the customer.
Provides hands-on instruction to customers in the field, on such issues as meter location, meter reading, leak
detection and conservation practices.
Performs the installation, calibration, troubleshooting and replacement of Electric End Point’s Water End Point’s.
Assists the warehouse with maintaining an adequate inventory of AMI and Electric Metering material.
Performs maintenance and upkeep of city provided equipment, such as the regular servicing of the assigned
vehicle and its appearance, monitoring its operational condition and keeping it clean and washed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, training and Experience Guidelines
High school diploma or equivalent. OR Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education that provides
the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Knowledge of:
General utility practices.
Assigned routes.

Skill in:
The use of various hand tools and meter tester associated with work.
Reading, recording and reporting utility use accurately.
Work independently to complete route.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Making professional judgments and decisions on customer accounts.
Reading meters and work orders, educational and leadership material for personal and professional development
Writing utilities usage reports and filling out time sheets
Performing basic mathematical calculations.
Interpreting and carrying out work orders accurately
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Class C Texas driver's license
