HomeMy WebLinkAboutEnergy Services SupervisorPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Energy Services Supervisor Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Exempt Revision Date: 02/03/2014 SUMMARY: Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of staff involved in the construction, repair, installation, and maintenance, or removal of electric utility systems and equipment. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:  Recommends for hire, supervises, and develops staff through review of performance data, conferences, training and counseling.  Ensures resolution to problems adversely impacting the department’s ability to meet business goals and/or customer service objectives.  Oversees contractor support crews in scheduling of work projects; monitors project progress and productivity of crews.  Assigns, organizes, and monitors task completion for work group.  Interprets, explains and enforces City policies, procedures, specifications and ordinances.  Collaborates with other Energy Services Supervisors to develop/revise processes and procedures to create better communications among all departmental groups and to develop more efficient and cost effective work practices.  Assists the Energy Services Manager with the overseeing of the Apprentice Lineman program with quantification of the OJT training documentation and progression in the program.  Assists the Energy Services Manager in the preparation of the O&M and CIP budget and Service Level Requests.  Recommends modification to construction specifications as required due to new and improved standards for installation and materials available.  Prepares status reports on construction activities, completion schedules of projects, time sheet, overtime ticket review and approval of time off requests.  Monitors safety issues for work group; .directs/participates in weekly safety meetings, external training; provides input to pre-job tailgates while on job sites.  Performs other duties as assigned or required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines High School diploma or equivalent. Eight years of full-time work experience in electric utility distribution system operation and maintenance. Two years of the required experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity. OR Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. One year of education (30 semester hours) from an accredited college or university or technical school may be substituted for one year of the required work experience with a maximum substitution of 2 years. Knowledge of:  Transmission and Distribution design and construction standards.  Applicable Georgetown Energy and OSHA safety regulations.  Local environmental requirements for construction and maintenance activities.  Supervision and managerial techniques and principles.  And familiarity with NESC, NEC and OSHA codes. Page 2 of 2 Skill in:  Following electrical safety procedures.  Leading and directing staff.  Communicating effectively, orally and in writing.  Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.  Data analysis and problem solving.  Using computer and related software programs.  Reading electrical hazard warnings and procedure manuals.  Writing work orders, timesheets, support documents for Energy Services Manager.  Calculating timesheet totals, calculations related to electric service and electric system.  Solving technical, safety, and construction problems. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid, Class C Texas driver’s license Classification as a Journeyman Lineman or industry equivalent by US Department of Labor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. Temperature extremes from weather and engines; loud noise from engine and blown fuses; creosote burns; live electric lines; occasional dogs and insects; uneven terrains; exposure to poison oak, ivy and sumac.
