Job Title: Electric Journeyman Lineman Crew Leader

SUMMARY: Leads and trains electrical crews in the performance of electrical repairs, installation, and troubleshooting.
Incumbents in this classification are required to be on-call on a rotating basis.

subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to,
the following:
Recommends for hire, supervises, and develops staff through review of performance data, conferences, training
and counseling.
Plans, organizes, schedules and leads crews in completion of assigned work orders.
Communicates with customer to explain purpose of activities that impact service.
Directs and performs daily line construction and maintenance activities for installing, repair, replacement, and
removal of both overhead and underground installations from aerial bucket, climbing poles and ground on
energized lines.
Installs and assembles transformer, switches, pad mounted facilities, street lighting, capacitors, circuit protection
equipment; installs and repairs meter equipment; performs service installs/removals/transfers.
Cuts and clears brush at ground level and along aerial lines and around substation equipment.
Completes and maintains paperwork, timesheets and daily logs for subordinate employees.
Participates as a mentor for lineman in the Apprentice Line Technician training program.
Directs and operates heavy machinery involved with digging, setting and tamping poles in energized lines, pulling
overhead and underground conductors in energized environments, digging and backfilling trenches or other
excavations and hurt man rescue by operating platform controls of aerial bucket and by pole.
Climbs poles and operates equipment for various tasks in both energized and de-energized situations.
Conducts detailed tailboard meetings with crew as needed to ensure awareness of conditions, hazards, and
specifics to work to be performed.
Ensures that monthly safety inspections are conducted and documented; prepares status reports on safety
activities and progress within established timeframes; initiates corrective action.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
Graduate of a documented line technician training program approved by industry and verified by cities training program
administrator. Eight years of full-time experience in utility distribution systems OR any equivalent combination of
experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge of:
Knowledge of electrical systems and safety procedures.
Skill in:
Ability to operate heavy equipment safely; ability to follow electrical safety procedures; ability to lead and direct
staff; ability to maintain Texas driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities and good driving record.
Reads electrical hazard warnings, procedure manuals.
Writes work orders and timesheets.
Solves technical, safety, and construction problems related to work.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Class A Texas driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision,
hearing, talking, use of foot controls.
Temperature extremes from weather and engines; loud noise from engine and blown fuses; creosote burns; live electric
lines; occasional dogs and insects; uneven terrains; exposure to poison oak, ivy and sumac.
