HomeMy WebLinkAboutLight Equipment Operator-DrainagePage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Light Equipment Operator - Drainage Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Non-exempt Revision Date: 05/16/2014 SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of an assigned lead or Forman operates a variety of light and heavy equipment in the maintenance, repairs of the drainage infrastructure. Participates in general maintenance and labor activities as necessary for timely completion of projects and work orders. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment in the performance of drainage related tasks to reduce flooding. • Drives various trucks, including dump trucks, and other city trucks. • Operates mower, sprayers containing herbicides and weed eater to clear grass and weeds from vacant lots, telephone poles, signs, curbs, guardrails and fire hydrants. • Cuts and clears fallen and overgrown trees. • Re-grades ditches, clean culverts, storm sewers, and ponds in order to reduce and minimize flooding. • Sets forms for curbs and drain inlets. • Digs, hauls, sets rebar and forms, pours and finishes concrete. • Conducts safety inspections of vehicles and equipment, sets up barricades, cones and road signs, wears protective and safety gear as indicated for the work assignment. • Prepares, gathers and transports tools, materials, supplies and equipment necessary to complete work assignments. • Cleans and repairs work site upon completion of construction. • Provides assistance to the Street Department. • May haul heavy and light equipment to and from assigned worksites. • May serve as lead for assigned staff. • Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines High School diploma or equivalent. Six months of full-time work experience performing work that is consistent with the essential functions for this classification. OR Any combination of experience, education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. One additional year of the required experience may be substituted for the required education. Knowledge of: • Routine maintenance and repair techniques for a variety of light and heavy equipment. • Construction and drainage maintenance and repair. • Occupational safety and health regulations, practices, and procedures for area of assignment safety procedures. Skill in: • Operating light/heavy machinery and equipment. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Reading safety and hazard warnings on equipment and materials. • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. Page 2 of 2 • Understanding and following oral and writing instructions. • Following occupational safety and health procedures. • Solving construction and repair problems. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Texas driving license. Must have or be able to obtain a Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License within 60 days of employment. Must have or be able to obtain DOT Medical Certification immediately upon obtaining CDL. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. Constant exposure to weather extremes, noise and vibration from equipment, moving traffic near work sites.
