HomeMy WebLinkAboutStreet Foreman-DrainagePage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Street Foreman - Drainage Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Non-Exempt Revision Date: 01/13/2014 SUMMARY: Ensures the safe and efficient construction and maintenance of the city’s streets and drainage systems by supervising the work of assigned crew. Ensures compliance with Phase II Storm Water Regulations. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:  Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and participates in the work of assigned crew responsible for drainage maintenance and construction tasks  Hires, supervises, trains, and develops staff through review of performance data, conferences, training and performance review.  Oversees and reviews work performed by contractors hired to perform drainage related tasks.  Establishes schedules and methods or providing street maintenance services; identifies resource needs; reviews needs with appropriate staff; allocates resources accordingly.  Evaluates and determines the quickest and most efficient way to get work done without sacrificing quality.  Ensures that work and safety standards are being maintained and schedules are being met.  Inspects completed work assignments to ensure that finished work meets departments quality and compliance standards and to identify any new issues or concerns.  Prepares necessary summaries of reports on work.  Operates various types of light and heavy equipment  Maintains database of detention and water quality pond maintenance.  Consults with local businesses to encourage compliance on private water quality and detention ponds.  Assists in construction and maintenance duties of street department.  May assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of a public education and outreach program focusing on the impacts of stormwater discharges on local water bodies and the steps that can be taken to reduce stormwater pollution.  Performs related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines High school diploma or equivalent. Five years of full-time experience in street maintenance, including competent backhoe, loader and other equipment operation. Two years of the required experience must have been in a supervisory or lead position. OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of:  Construction and street repair procedures  Equipment, tools and materials and methods used in street construction and maintenance activities and services.  Supervising and training crew members  Local, state and federal laws, ordinances and rules.  Safety standards and procedures related to construction Page 2 of 2 Skill in:  Organizing, implementing and directing street maintenance operations and activities.  Shooting grades and figuring elevation and drainage..  Operating a variety of heavy equipment as required by position.  Performing the more complex duties of the operations.  Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.  Coaching, mentoring and training co-workers to operate equipment and perform required construction operations.  Reading safety and hazard warnings on equipment and materials.  Writing sufficiently to complete timesheet, work orders, daily log of work and other reports.  Making mathematical calculation to, figures orders for materials required.  Solving construction and repair problems LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Class B License, CDL License within thirty days of hire. DOT Medical Certification within thirty days of hire. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. Frequent exposure to weather extremes, noise and vibration from equipment, dust, moving traffic near work sites.
