HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks Maintenance Worker SeniorPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Parks Maintenance Worker, Senior Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Non-exempt Revision Date: 04/29/2015 SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Parks Maintenance Foreman, supervises assigned staff and participates in the maintenance of the trails system. Determines ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Assists in maintaining City parks, facilities, equipment, and grounds; cleans and repairs park facilities; conducts routine landscaping and facilities maintenance tasks ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Mows, edges grass, trims trees and shrubs, maintains green spaces and trails. • Maintains facilities by repairing/replacing doors, gates, fences, minor repairs, and painting. • Application of herbicides and pesticides to turf areas, using proper techniques and recommended equipment. • Cleans restrooms, pavilions, and other structures. • Assembles; constructs and repairs playground structures; completes and works on light/small construction projects. • Performs daily rounds of facilities and park land and fields to inspect areas for damage/vandalism; performs repair and maintenance functions, including plumbing, lights, etc. • Performs irrigation checks and repairs. • May assign work and/or assist Parks Maintenance Workers with completion of tasks. • Operates heavy machinery and light equipment to properly complete assigned tasks. • Supports special events by setting up, tearing down, and other miscellaneous duties • Completes and maintains records as required by department policy. • Performs all job duties according to all approved safety rules and procedures. • Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Highs school diploma or equivalent. Three years of full-time experience in landscaping, or park maintenance or related experience. OR Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of: • Pesticide/herbicide application • Equipment used in grounds keeping or other related work. • Parks and recreational facility maintenance and repair. • Safety practices and procedures. • Light/Heavy machinery operation. • Construction, electrical, concrete and/or plumbing practices and procedures. • City practices and procedures. Skill in: • Comprehending and following oral and written instructions. • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Lift, move and/or carry equipment or materials applicable to the assigned work. Page 2 of 2 • Operating light and heavy equipment. • Reading memos, instructions, warning labels, road signs, etc. • Preparing work orders and reports for supervisor. • Measuring and mixing cleaning agents/pesticides. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Class A Texas Commercial driver’s license Pesticide Applicator’s License, preferred or the ability to obtain within 6 months. CPR and First Aid, preferred. Certified Playground Safety Certification, preferred. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. Exposure to weather extremes, especially the sun, exposed to pesticides.
