HomeMy WebLinkAboutYouth Adventure Program CoordinatorPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Youth Adventure Program Coordinator Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Exempt Revision Date: 05/30/2014 SUMMARY: Plans, implements and supervises outdoor adventure and outdoor recreational programs, adventure trips, and spring break/summer adventure camps. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Plans, develops, and supervises outdoor adventure and outdoor recreational activities including teen adventure camps, adult and youth trips, afterschool programming and custom programs. • Assists Challenge Course Coordinator with challenge course programs and other rec relational programs. • Promotes and markets outdoor adventure and outdoor recreational programs to community groups, schools, businesses and youth related agencies. • Monitors trip/program expenses and complete trip/programs reports for supervisor. • Assists in establishing and monitoring policies and procedures related to outdoor programs. • Hires, schedules, trains, and evaluates contract and seasonal staff and instructors for the adventure program. • Investigates and resolves citizen complaints and requests concerning the adventure programs, and adventure camps. • Maintain and demonstrate knowledge of current/up to date industry standards of hard skills and technical skills related to adventure recreation. • Reviews, monitors and maintains all equipment, ropes and technical hardware. • Coordinates waivers, liability and medical forms for adventure programs. • Utilizes the departmental computer system to conduct registration for programs. • Participates in and assists with departmental special events, senior programs and other projects. • Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Outdoor Education or Outdoor Recreation or related field. Three years of full-time work experience in Outdoor Recreation or Outdoor Education. One year of the required experience must have included working with youth and youth with special needs (at-risk) OR Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of: • (In-depth) recreation and outdoor adventure programming. • (In-depth) experiential education, facilitation and processing techniques. • Recreation/outdoor adventure program design, administration, and evaluation. • Program marketing. • City policies and procedures. • Supervisory and management practices and principles. • Recreation risk management principles. Skill in: • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. • Supervising, and training employees. • Working well with adults and children. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Page 2 of 2 • Performing technical outdoor activities (rock climbing, challenge course, backpacking, etc.). • Reading journals, memos and other documents. • Writing letters, memos, reports, instructions, and promotional material and other correspondence. • Performing basic mathematical calculations; budget management. • Analyzing statistical data. • Interpreting policies, procedures, and City ordinances LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Class C Texas driver's license or available alternate means of transportation Community First Aid, AED and CPR (Instructor preferred) Preferred certifications include Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Challenge Course Certification, and Swiftwater Rescue Certification.
