HomeMy WebLinkAboutTennis ProfessionalPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Tennis Professional Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Exempt Revision Date: 05/30/2014 SUMMARY: Coordinates, manages and promotes all aspects of the tennis center to the general public. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Designs and implements tennis programming for a year round tennis facility, including private lessons, group lessons, clinic, socials, leagues, tournaments, camps, etc. • Works closely with Supervisor to coordinate facility budget and maintenance needs by maintaining an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies, keeping records regarding cost and quantity, and scheduling maintenance and repairs for building, courts and equipment. • Markets and promotes community participation in all tennis programs by organizing multiple forms of public advertising including flyers, mail-outs, emails, phone calls, publications and articles, and special events. • Maintains positive effective relationships with tennis organizations such as Capital Area Tennis Association, United States Tennis Association (USTA), etc. • Selects, supervises, trains and schedules tennis center staff to ensure overall goals of tennis center are moving in a unified direction. • Organizes the formation of clubs, leagues, and teams; oversee league play, including court assignments, match assignments, and schedules. • Stays informed of the latest teaching methods, equipment, stringing advances, rule changes and USTA initiatives. • Provides racquet stringing services, including repair and consultation to members and the general public regarding string and tension characteristics to best enhance playing abilities. • Recommends and orders stock for the pro shop. • Serves as a role model and mentor to the general public, especially the junior population, in regards to ethics and sportsmanship. • Oversees and manages program registration regarding lessons, leagues, camps, and tournaments, including class changes, cancellations, and refunds. • Works closely with community, USTA, CATA, and other tennis organizations in order to coordinate and publicize tournaments and special events, maintain current memberships, and write tennis grants as needed. • Serves as Tournament Director for all tournaments; including organizing and supervising tournament play. • Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation facilities management. Five years of full-time work experience as a staff professional, assistant, or head professional at a tennis facility/club. Two years of the required experience must have included experience stringing tennis racquets. OR Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of: • Tennis programming, teaching, and maturity of judgment. • Tennis game, physical skills and instructional components. • Marketing and promotion practices and strategies. • Facility management. • City policies and procedures. Page 2 of 2 Skill in: • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. • Using computers and related equipment, hardware and software. • Implementing departmental rules, procedures and objectives. • Effectively supervising and delegating duties to assigned staff. • Resolving customer complaints and concerns. • Reading manuals, office memos and other documents. • Producing flyers, advertisements, and writes reports and letters. • Performing basic mathematical calculations; budget management. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS USPTA Professional Tennis Instructional Certification OR USPTR Professional Tennis Instructional Certification Certified in Community CPR/First Aid/AED. Master Racquet Technician (MRT) or Certified Stringer (CS) preferred. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls.
