HomeMy WebLinkAboutSpecial Services SuperintendentPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Special Services Superintendent Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Exempt Revision Date: 05/30/2014 SUMMARY: Assists Director of Parks and Recreation in organizing and coordinating a variety of recreational and cultural programs. Develops, administers, coordinates, and evaluates City recreational programs and events focusing on youth programs, tennis facility, outdoor programs and facilities. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Provides oversight and direction to the staff and operations of the Tennis Center, including supervising, training, and scheduling staff; oversees general tennis programming; mages facility operations including budget management, coordinating court and facility maintenance, front desk operations, customer service and community outreach. • Provides oversight and direction to the staff and operations of the Challenge Course Program and the Outdoor Adventure Program, including risk management, supervising of full-time staff, managing budgets and assisting with programming and the facilitation of both programs. • Oversees and manages all City sponsored summer camp programs, including hiring, scheduling and training summer/seasonal staff; coordinates camp programming; assists with the registration processes. • Oversees payroll documentation for employees, contract staff, and summer seasonal camp staff; manages contracts for tennis instructors and course facilitators. • Prepares reports for program evaluations; develops policy and procedures for all assigned programs. • Oversees partnerships, contracts, and agreements with local schools and community organizations; works to ensure that collaboration and effective partnering relationships continue. • Markets and promotes assigned programs. • Assists with Department special events and projects. • Performs other duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Outdoor Recreation Programming, Therapeutic Recreation or related field. Five years of full-time progressively responsible work experience in a Parks and Recreation field. Three years of the required experience must have been in a supervisory capacity. OR Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of: • Recreation programming. • Recreation program design, administration, and evaluation. • City policies and procedures. • Supervisory and management practices and principles. • Recreation risk management principles. Skill in: • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, • Supervising and training employees. • Working well with adults and children. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Reading journals and memos and other documents. Page 2 of 2 • Writing letters, memos, reports, instructions, promotional material and other correspondence. • Performing basic mathematical calculations; budget management. • Analyzing statistical data; interpreting policies, procedures, and City ordinances. • Resolving customer complaints or concerns. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Class C Texas driver's license or available alternate means of transportation Texas Recreation Park Society Professional membership PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls.
